verystormy
Well, after 5 years here we will next week be doing our citizenship ceremony. But this has thrown me the issue of what to wear. It is not something I have any idea about and am starting to worry. For those that have done it, what is the right attire? At the moment I am thinking smart trousers, shirt but no tie. But not sure if it should be a suit? Or even more? A English friend did a citizenship for another country in whites - tails with white shirt and white bow tie. Another is suggesting dinner suit. Another shorts and t. Help. India
We dressed as if going out for a smart meal, and dressed the kids in the same way Our Australian friends who had come to support us and party with us afterwards dressed in a similar way. We looked, ridiculously over dressed and everyone else was in jeans with a couple of people in shorts. however if I was to do it again I would dress exactly the same way,it is a formal occasion! The ceremony signified the end of a long journey that had started with visa applications it would not have seemed right to dress as if I was nipping in to Coles to do the shopping. it may well depend on the venue for your ceremony as to how smartly people dress ours was Nedlands

Hi VS, We as a family wanted to look smart and formal for our ceremony, as it was a big thing for us, and the ceremony itself was lovely and quite formal. Many different nationalities were there, some were in traditional dress and looked amazing. We had a champagne reception after and I must say the shire did a wonderful job in making it a very special event. So with that in mind we wore our Sunday best and felt most people made an effort to dress for the occasion. OH wore shirt, trousers and tie, girls and I wore dresses. I hope you have a lovely day, enjoy! Pea
ali
No casual dress at ours. We did choose to take the oath saying 'with god' (you can choose to not say this)... out of about 70 people, only one group of 10 chose not to say 'with god'. We took our own bible, which had been given to my hubby and I on our wedding day by our vicar, it has the date of our marriage and we've added the children's birth dates etc., (they do give you a bible if you choose to say 'with god'), but we thought it was nice to include something that has been very much of our lives in the UK and here in Aus.
