New Years Eve 2014

This is my first post so I'll keep it short and sweet. I'm arriving in Perth at lunchtime on NYE and am staying at the cottesloe backpacker hostel. I'm looking for a party but don't know where to begin, as I've never been to Australia before. I will be staying long term once I've found somewhere to rent. Any suggestions would be appreciated and info on taxis or public transport if the party isn't close to cottesloe!

Im sure if you are staying in a backpackers they will be able to tell you, or you will meet people who will invite you to whatever they are doing. I think the beaches are normally a dry zone, ie no drink allowed. The party place in perth seems to be northbridge, and i believe scarborough can also be a good place for going out. All hearsay though as im far too old for all that now! :)

You may get lucky and be able to join some of your fellow backpackers if they have anything planned....

or you may be jet lagged and just want to sleep!!

Your best bet would be to head to Northbridge, that's where most of the nightclubs are and they also have a street festival, live bands, dj's etc going on. You can get the train to the underground station and walk from there or take a bus to Wellington street and again a walk across the bridge will bring you here. Public transport will be running thru the night on a limited service.

A lot of younger people also head to Scarborough beach...not sure what goes on there and technically your not meant consume alcohol on the beach but don't know if this is adhered too...

Thanks for that. Sounds like train to Northbridge is my best option. Then taxi home.

Just be aware that taxis in Perth are a nightmare and on NYE they are even worse. Last time I tried to get one I didn't get home till 4AM (after finishing partying at 1AM) and I was lucky to get a taxi at all!

So try and prebook something or go somewhere you can walk to.
