Hi we were just wondering if the house prices had dropped at all over there, we are currently planning our move and have lost quite alot of equity from our house as a result of the 'credit crunch' and was wondering how this will affect what we can afford in the perth area (we have been looking more specifically at clarkson).

Thanks Vicky

Hi Vicky - there a few surveys out at the momnet that say that hoouse prices have dropped by about 10% - but it depends more on what suburb. Some places haven't really changed too much.

Hi the house prices at the moment are dropping a little this is more due to demand than anything else. Clarkson has affordable housing and has some nice areas. Mindarie and Quinns is a little more expensive but over here you do get a lot more for your money. Best thing is to take a look at the areas and see what suits you best. Hope helps.

Just bear in mind that Clarkson is isolated and you have to have a car. We lived there for 2 months and I had to move as didn't have a car, and it was very, very hard. I would walk for an hour or two every day and not see anyone. We found out afterwards that a lot of the houses had been bought by people in the mining boom, and were therefore sat empty as an investment. If you just want somewhere to be at night, that is a lovely house, nice size, and don't mind waiting years for the area to mature then it is the right area for you.

I just want to pass on my experience of the area, as initially we wanted to buy there, and thank goodness we didn't as I was so miserable. As I said, it's better if you have a car, are not there for most of the day, and don' have small children.

You are talking absolute rubish!!! please check your facts before you post on these forums, what you say can influence peoples lives.

Clarkson is not isolated as you state there are busses running day and night and the train station from which you can travel to any part of Perth from, Wherever you live in Australia you have to have a car everything is so spaced out but the roads are excellent.

Life is what you make it.

You;re right in saying the whole of Australia is isolated but Clarkson like most Northern suberbs is even more isolated unless you live right next to the train line. Buses aren't that great - and where do you go? To another suberb which takes ages to get to? I used to go to a class in Kinsgley - 1 hour it took to get there for a 45 minute class, a long walk too with a toddler in the heat.

I wholeheartedly agree that you should be careful what you say as it influences people. Telling people that Clarkson is a good area to live in without a car is VERY far fetched.,, i tried it and I went out everyday - I used to travel down to Perth and Fremantle (taking 3-4 hours travel on the train) every day and it was incredibly tiring but I made the most of it as you say.

I guess it depends what you like. If you like lots of lots of residential sprawl, lots of houses and roads with no heart or established greenery - then yes, Clarkson is the place for you.

I just think it is important that people know how very isolated it is, as if you have children and they cannot drive (NOT all of us are high polluters and think of the environment) then it will be difficult for them.

So why didn't you go to live in the city?, it depends what you want from an area and what lifestyle, it takes 25 minutes to drive to the city centre and 30 minutes on the train.

There are now 3 parks in clarkson and a 15 minute trip north will have you in Yanchep National park! Also Clarkson was 100% mature bushland 20 years ago! and its not all gone!

If its the countyside you want go to the Perth hills!

Don't understand how it took an hour to get to Kingsley its 20 minutes by road! you should reach Mandurah in an hour!

Who doesn't have at least 1 car these days? All Suburbs are "residential sprawl" thats the whole point of them.

As you now live in Mosman park I take it your happy now, it strikes me your a touch of a Snob? (It's Suburb, not suberb)

A snob?

Because I choose not to have a car? and wanted to express a view on the area being isolated.

That's very personal so I am going to report you.

Calling me for snob for expressing that I felt an area was isolated without a car. Unnessesary and inappropriate.

At the same time "report " me :goofy:for saying your head is well up your bottom. Clarkson is a suburb away from the CBD ,but there is an excellent transport system to other areas.

TO STACY AND CATCH

I am entitled to say that I think Clarkson is too isolated without a car and don't understand why you are resorting to nastiness?

Everyone knows that Perth is isolated. It is called the most isolated place so why are you being so weird about me stating an obvious fact? And then calling me a snob because of an opinion I am ENTITLED to. I am not being nasty about Clarkson, I am being honest about my perspective of the area about living there for 2 months WITHOUT a car.

I think you both ought to apologise, or be ashamed of yourselves.

Why are you ganging up on someone just because they don't think an area in Perth is particularly pedestrian friendly?

I think to brand someone a snob because they don't own a 4 by 4 is in itself the highest level of hipocrisy. A snob is defined as "one who tends to patronize, rebuff, or ignore people regarded as social inferiors and imitate, admire, or seek association with people". You're the only one rebuffing other people's opinions! And with no clear argument, just insults. I guess that indicates your own sheer arrogance and diminished sense of community. I would guess you are both uneducated chavs from essex who have come here in search of the sun, hell bent on encouraging people from similar hedonistic views who share the same purpose in life: to judge others, be nasty pieces of work, drink a lot, and pollute the world both with your arrogance and your small minded unenvironmental choices.

Well done for being so nasty, I applaud you. It is much easier to be isn't it? Rather than being educated and trying to provide an objective opinion. So go on, say why you think Clarkson is a no less isolated than areas closer to Perth centre, put your money where your mouth is you bullies! (Oh without resorting to low level insults, if you can, which you won't be able to).

I said it. You uneducated bullies.

Don't own a 4 x 4 don't, come from the soulth of England, am not a chav, not being nasty, am highly educated and work in management in Perth City, have lived in Clarkson for 2 years and currently still do, Don't care either way where people come from in the u.k. or where they want to live in Perth, All my points Are based on facts and my own personal experiences. Don't care what you think of me, and also this thread was about house prices in the first place, Bianca started slagging suburbs off not me! I was just putting her straight with FACTS. By the way Clarkson, Bulter, Ridgewood, Brighton house prices are fairly steady if not a small rise recently.

What gives you the right to make comment about Catch & my life anyway.

BUT OUT! DON'T YOU HAVE SOME TREE'S TO GO HUG?

I can't believe that my saying I don't think Clarkson is such a great place to live without a car has prompted so much nastiness. Which, is still in my belief, correct.

It was just my humble opinion and wasn't entirely that far fetched. Think going to close my account as I'm not interested in battles online and people's opinions that are unbalanced and inappropriately nasty.

Joy to all x

Well done, your nastiness has almost surpassed itself.

AND yet still neither of you have provided an objective, balanced arguement?

Things are really getting out of hand now, this is Stacey talking by the way!!

You are all being very immature about everything, poor Vicky was only asking about house prices, she obviously has researched the area or even done a recky overwise she would've asked what the area was like not what the house prices were like!!

I lived in Carkson for 9 months without the luxury of a car and i didn't feel isolated at all, the trains run every 10 mins to the city(30mins) and Mandurah(1hr), there were always plenty of buses to and from the station at Clarkson, and you could always walk if you wanted to, there is a relatively big shopping centre there, lots of parks etc. I never had any problems getting anywhere i wanted to go.

So please stop all the bitching and nastiness and let people respond to the thread in which it was intended, to find out house prices!!!

Thank You

Right folks - this thread is now closed. There's no need to drag a good thread down this way - there's a difference between a good debate and being personal. This has one to far.
