Lou8670
Hi all I have a load of filing and papers to shred but i would like some advice on what documents and papers I should keep and bring to Oz, other than the obvious exam certificates and kids school reports. Is there anything you binned or left behind and needed it? Is there anything you wished you'd kept because it was a real hassle to get a copy of the evidence again? Cheers Lou

wild rose
Hi, Am I right in thinking evidence of 'no claims bonus' earned on UK car insurance can be used in Oz? If so, this might be worth taking with you??

phil
Before moving I sorted out my filing. Two piles, one for shredding, one for taking. I got carried away somehow and shredded the lot. Haven't needed any of it mind. For all important/irreplaceable documents I'd already scanned them into the computer and saved them to DropBox/SkyDrive/Google Drive. That's been quite useful - the number of times people have wanted to have a copy of my passport/driving licence etc, I just print them out from any computer with a printer and internet. bugsyburrell
We done like Phil, had most copies backed up on an external drive but still decided to bring half a filing cabinet with us which caused havoc when trying to board at Sydney to Perth!! Candygirl
I emailed important docs to myself as I thought as long as I could access emails, we could print bits off etc. We were never asked to provide copies of anything, only originals. If they needed copies, they would take them. One thing I totally overlooked was to get a letter from our vet stating that our two dogs had been spade. When you register them at the local council, they will need to see a copy of this, otherwise you end up paying a lot more to register them. Walkabout
Hi, we are only just under 2 weeks in, so probably havent faced all that we will need to in terms of papers, but so far all we have needed really has been our passports, visa, birth certificates, copy of immunisation history for the kids, driving licence, and bank statements from accounts in the UK and Aus. To date with that we have managed to buy a car, secure a rental and enrol the kids at school, I also have copys of the kids last school reports which I will pass to school, although they dont seem to worried about that. The rest of the things you need you have to build up a history over here, so we will have a rental history now, we have a registration document for the car, we have medicare (only temporary for now) cards, we have car insurance (we did bring proof of no claims but we didnt need it) so in future we will have australian things as proof rather than UK ones. One thing I do wish I have packed to bring but have put in the container is the details for our insurance on our house while it is let - the neighbours have had a water leak that has caused damage to our house and it would have been useful to have had the details but not insurmountable! Hope that helps a bit!
Lou8670
Thanks all. I have had a cull but have kept a file with all our documents we needed to apply for our visa, kids immunisations and academic certificates; a file with bank statements including mortgage repayments; and a file with most recent utility bills, driving licence, insurance, tax returns etc. Now to put a rental pack together! Am I right to include the following: Copy passports Visa grant letters Bank statement showing savings Mortgage statement / rate receipts showing met payments in past Brochure and pics from our house sale Character references and contact details Australian employer details once known Covering letter with details of family members who will be living in the property, job you do/ type of work Is there anything else we should be including? bugsyburrell
Hi Lou, we pretty much had everything you have listed on your pack, applied for two and got the second one. Can't see the problem here? We did go to quite a few viewings and it does look like it could be a nightmare. The property we secured was at the higher end of the scale for our location but is a brand new property and seems to be larger than others.
