Just found this thread, don't know how I missed it before when it was started. What a great idea Porty to meet up quarterly. We are arriving mid May.

Just like others have said, I too am feeling the different waves of emotions. Everything from, "What the F***" to "Yippee!". I have started worrying about jobs, wages, cost of living, schools, places to live, getting it right, leaving the cat, missing stuff, leaving family, pensions, etc. basically everything. Ridiculous I know.

I watched the film 'After Earth' last night on TV. Will Smith plays this monster fighting ranger. The gigantic monster is blind and can only find people by the pheromones they secret when they feel fear. Will Smith's character is fearless, so he can get up really close and slay the monsters. He says to his son, that there is nothing wrong with identifying a situation as dangerous as that is a fact. However, the feeling of fear is just an unnecessary response that does nothing to help the situation. All I could think as I watched this was, I would be a rubbish ranger as I feel fear about everything! I hope those bloody monsters don't turn up in Perth, I'd be the first to be eaten!! :chatterbox:

This made me laugh akasully (I'm sure the monsters would get to feast on me too) Im glad I'm not the only one worrying about absolutely everything. We will hopefully be arriving in perth around June/July, don't know where we ll be going. This site has been so helpful for getting ideas though and helping me feel I'm not alone with my fears. Hopefully there ll be a meet up later in the year when we get there. :)

Hello all, we land on Sunday 5th jan! I'm a hairdresser and my husband is a landscape gardener, we have a little boy who's 2 and would love to meet some other families/couples in the same boat as us! We visited in May '13 and fell in love with Perth, we can't wait to get back to those beautiful beaches (although, this time in swim suits not hoodies and jeans)! leaving our loved ones behind is hitting us now with only 4 and a half weeks to go, but we have a huge adventure ahead and that's sooo exciting! Hope to meet some of you soon ✈️☀️

hiya... we arrived (husband and two boys 2&4) on the 30th jan... we are loving it here.. :) were abouts are u guys living? we are in tapping NOR? :)

Hi Deb

We are staying in a holiday let in Rockingham we arrive in April

QUOTE=Sideshowdeb;89590]Well, today my little countdown app says we've got 164 days left in the UK! We arrive in Perth August 1st, and we've rented a holiday let in Rockingham for the first month. I've started applying for jobs as they aren't advertised very often, so if I'm lucky enough to get a job offer then we may be there sooner.

:cute:Hi saffanzimbo,

Ditto! OH is hoping to fly out October (to look for work etc), and my son and I are booked to fly out end of December. I think from memory you had your reccie around the same time as us (April 2013). We too are looking at SOR, specifically Willetton. Good luck, hope it all goes well for you.

Hi PomPom, Brilliant! Yes we spent 3 weeks in Perth in April and absolutely loved it.

We must arrange to catch up when we arrive.

We are starting to do DIY on the house so that we can rent it out (seems a waste but they are low cost items and will help make the time fly by I hope!). We have been dithering about selling vs renting but the local estate agents have said the house will be in demand due to the school zone and proximity to the A4/M4/A404 so we'll rent for a year or 2. It will be hard to become a tenant after 10 years in our own home.

OH will start off with friends in Mandurah at first but hopefully he will find work within a few weeks. Jobs in his trade seem to be disappearing fast due to the slow down so we are a little anxious. We havn't told the girls yet but we've been trying to work out which area to try and find a rental in and I think all the schools in Leeming/ Willetton/Bull Creek are really good so we will have a look at something affordable in all 3 areas.

Looking forward to seeign you downunder!

So we arrive at Easter! Watched our container leave yesterday with much excitement! Really real now. So how about a day towards the end of Easter...in the hope that we'll be organised enough to be able to join you all. My ideas for settling down are now down to Willeton, Ellenbrook & Baldivis. I know, huge variation but it's so hard to tell from the internet! Staying down in Waikiki for Easter & would love to have plans to meet people who've done this recently. Anyone willing to set a date?

Hi Mjwest, how's your 18 year old getting on, are they at school, working etc? My 18 year old son will be coming with us later in the year and I'm trying to imagine what it will be like for him as he won't be at school but we're going to look into Tafe courses. Good to hear you're all settling in and enjoying it x
