Hi there we are in the same boat as you , agents will not email back as you have to view the property for your self,

I don't think any do the online form. We looked at holiday lets but are quite exspensive. Stayz and oz house rentals but for me I looked on trip adviser you can get some good ones on there. I would only book for 2 weeks as you could possibly exstend this if you do not sort out a long term rental in the two weeks you have with your holiday rental. The apparments we was going to go with was $1680 for 2 weeks in como . Hope it all works out for you. Good luck

scott.

Shresthaz and Skit78,

As most people have said, temporary accommodation can be very expensive. We have stayed in 2 separate 2 bedroom places - an apartment on Scarborough Beach and a 'modest' (read tiny!!) townhouse in Mosman Park. The rental has been around the $160-180 per night mark, which over 8 weeks is eye-watering!

We have used Stayz, Airbnb and realestate.com.au all of which are good. Gumtree has some properties on, but seems to be mostly rooms to let in shared houses - relatively cheap, but lacking privacy/freedom. It depends what you are after and how much you want to spend.

Unless you have friends to stay with here, you will probably have to book a short term (expensive) place for a couple of weeks whilst you find a longer term rental property. In our experience, the competitiveness for rental properties that we had heard about from a few months ago seems to have reduced - there are plenty of vacant properties around with only a couple of families at each viewing we have been to.

We are moving into a 6 month rental next week, so have been living, breathing and sleeping the whole property thing for the last couple of months. Glad to provide advice if you have any other questions on this.

Regards,

S.

Depends what you're looking for and where you want to live. A nice place in Subi, Applecross or Floreat could set you back $1k a week!

realestate.com.au is your friend. There's even an app for it.

Please don't ask if NOR or SOR is better. It starts wars on here :)

1k a week!!! Shocking...

We don't have any friends there. So we need to look out for cheap temporary accommodation for at least a couple of weeks. I have marked couple of places in airbnb but nothing's finalized yet. BTW, how did you manage the long term rental? I mean don't you need any kind of reference for it?

Regards

Ok we have some where to stay now in applecross with my brother in law untill we find our own rental. This makes me want to rent a 3 bed house and rent out a spare room for other people who are stuck for when they land and not pay the holiday let prices. Thanks for your advice and good luck to all making the move.

To get a long term rental, you'll need to make up a rental pack.

Make copies of your mortgage statements, gas, electric, water and council tax payments. If you're currently renting, get a reference from your landlord. You should also have copies of your passports, driving licences, Medicare card and employment contracts.

It's a good idea to get 2 application forms when you view a house, in case you mess it up first time. If your going to see another house with the same agents you can fill a spare in prior to viewing the house.

What your saying about not too many people turning up at viewing is not what I have found, but there again what price range are you talking about???

the properties that are around the $400- $500 mark have about 30 people or more, so you must be talking a higher price bracket???

Thats funny, when I left the UK a couple of years ago we still had telephones! Nothing stopping you calling them, they can only say no!

You cannot see any contact details for the person who posted the ad, so as previously stated you cannot reply, oh and no-one likes a smart arse!
