Hopeful
Hi All, A while since I have been on as have had my head down studying for ielts and submitting skills assessment. Can anyone please recommend secondary schools in the Mandurah area- my son is 14 and a high achieving academic but not greatly sporty- ive picked up from other threads that this is potentially significant when choosing schools?? thanks
Scot01
Unless you can go private, then you are limited in choice really. John Tonkin College is the main govt high school - substantially below average in national test, attendance rate of 87% - so 13% don't attend and academic results last year very poor - 2 kids got an A in their year 12 exams. Results for Halls head Community College even worse (zero got an A). best school in terms of results - Fredrick Irwin which is kindy - year 12 and is above average. Mandurah catholic College and Mand Baptist are average. These schools will have long waiting lists. Do you have to be in Mandurah? A new Govt high school is opening in Baldavis which might be worth considering.
Hopeful
Thanks Scot01, I don't think we will have to live in Mandurah but job is there but will be happy to travel- what about private schools where can I find out costings? jamesw
My son goes to Mandurah Baptist College, will be starting year 9 in February. He is doing well and have no complaints with the school. Fees for next year are just over $5000. http://www.mbc.wa.edu.au/
Scot01
Fredrick Irwin, Mandurah Baptist College and Mandurah Catholic College are all private and for fees, go to the individual web sites.
Give me a break!
My Son also goes to MBC. He's been there one year, started the first intake of year 7 High School. It's the very best thing we did moving him from his old school. Love the school, the way it's run, all of it.

andyplasterer
my daughter staring at mandurah catholic in feb (year 9). Just been for interview with the principal really impressed. Also had an interview at Frederick Irwin, I personally don't feel that Frederick Irwin will warrant the extra cost , just my opinion
Zebradeb
For any schools, their performance and to do comparisons. I found this website really helpful http://www.myschool.edu.au/ IMO its not always about results but what would best suit your child. There are schools with particular areas of speciality which could be worth considering if that is an area in which your child would excel for example. Happy hunting! Go and have a look around and trust your instincts!
