Catalyst2012
Hello Folks, I've been living in a shared house for the last year or so with another person, and our lease has recently been renewed for another year. My flatmate and I are the co-tenants with both our names added to the lease agreement. For some reason, we do not see eye to eye anymore, and I think it's about time that I start looking for another place. I'm renting through a private owner who is currently on leave and I was wondering whether it's acceptable to let the owner know via email about my situation, and whether I can move out as soon as I find another place? Technically this wouldn't classify as a lease break since the other tenant would still continue to live here and getting my name off the lease and dealing with the bond disposal is all that needs to be done? Or can I not leave until the owner amends all the paperwork? Anyone been in such a situation before? Cheers Cat
ali
I'm not sure about the ins and outs Cat, but I'd send them an email in the first instance, start looking for somewhere else and give notice. If you were on your own, you'd need to find someone else to take on the lease or pay for the advertising until someone was found ... it may be you'll still be liable for the rent until someone is found? Catalyst2012
Thanks Ali! Since the lease has been renewed in joint names (the flatmate and myself), and since the flatmate and his OH would be more than happy to have the house to themselves, I reckon the owner would have no problems with me leaving. Anyway, I'll see if I can get in touch with the owner and start the ball rolling. Ta! Cat
