Peata Whyted
After a fraught few weeks of deciding whether to up sticks from Liverpool for life in Perth, we finally plucked up the courage today to set the wheels in motion by applying for a relocation opportunity with my company. A few weeks long wait over Christmas and we should get the green light to come out there and join you all. Really excited now and hope everything goes to plan, so we can explore what looks to be a wonderful city! Pete & Jo.

Peata Whyted
Hi guys, all seems to be going in the right direction. I got an email from my potentially new boss in Perth during the Christmas break saying that there had been a positive response from the decision makers in the USA, hopefully now we are just waiting to see if they formally approve the move, then it's visa application time. I expect we will know before the week is out. Look forward to meeting you all soon, if all goes well! I will post some news here as soon as we hear. Peata Whyted
Well time for an update! I received my offer this morning along with the visa application forms from the migration agent. They seem to think we could have our 457 ready in 2 months, maybe sooner if we don't need medicals! So we have a bit of work to do now getting everything in order and renting our house out. I can't believe we are packing our bags for the other side of the world! Exciting but nervous times. We will keep you posted on our progress, but should be there in April. Pete & Jo x
Akasully2
Wow, that's quick! What does the 457 allow you to do?
Peata Whyted
Hi Akasully2, The 457 is a company sponsored visa which allows me to bring the family to Aus and work for 4 years. There are some tight restrictions on this visa, as it is related to the job I am being brought in to do, but as part of the job offer, my company has offered to put us through our PR if we like Perth and wish to stay there. verystormy
Congratulations on the visa. Be prepared for things to move quickly as if the company have sponsored previously, it only be a few weeks! I would get the PR as soon as possible. There are other negatives with 457's other than the visa restrictions. Notably, school fees - there is now a fee in WA for children of 457 holders of several thousand per year per child. Credit can be an issue for things like purchasing cars as they will normally only lend for less than the duration of the visa - normally about 3.5 years and not all lenders will lend to temp visa holders. Work for spouses can be an issue and many find it difficult to get work as employers are nervous of someone that doesn't have permanent right to stay. Peata Whyted
Thanks verystormy, I was worried about fees etc. so much so that I did look into it and it seems that they will probably be introduced in WA for the 2015 academic year. Is this correct from your knowledge, I hope so. My company have a corporate arrangement with Citibank, so hopefully I can leverage that to arrange a vehicle. Thanks for the info, I need as much as I can get at the moment! Pete.
Peata Whyted
Hi everyone, it's been good reading all of posts on here every day, I am getting a bit of a PP addiction now I think. I thought I would post an update on our progress. We had the estate agents out to look at the house from a rental point of view late Jan. They actually advised us to wait for 3 weeks before marketing the house. So we booked the medical for my OH, got all of the (vast) paperwork together and sent to the MA. The medical was done within a week and then we had to wait for a report to be filed etc which took a few weeks. I tackled the 10 years worth of hoarding that was the garage while the OH tackled the house. 20 trips to the tip, charity shop and much ebaying later, I set about doing all of those jobs I have been putting off, repainting the walls, fixing the blind etc etc. the 457 was formally lodged by the MA last Monday, we booked our temp accommodation in Freo for 1st April (we can shift the date if required). Agent marketed the house on Friday, and the first viewer took it straight away on Sat morn!! Pickfords were out on Friday and we are fine to fit in a 20ft container. All in all it's been a mammoth, hectic month, but very productive. Our leaving do is booked for 2 weeks time, so all we need now are our visas and then I can get the flights booked! Hope to see you all in just over 5 weeks! Pete & Jo.

Peata Whyted
Thanks guys, and for the icing on the cake, I woke up this morning to an email from the MA with our visa grant notifications attached. A 6 day turnaround can't be bad! We are over the moon that the final piece of the jigsaw is in place. Just need to finalise the date with the movers and book the flights, Perth here we come! Peata Whyted
We are on our way! Booked our flights this morning. We fly From Manchester at 08.45 on 29th March with Emirates. Flying via Dubai shaved about 3 hrs off the total time vs Singapore, plus the 7hr first flight then 11hr second flight fits better for the kids (we are hoping they are excited during the 1st leg, then conk out for the 2nd leg!). We arrive there just after midday on Sunday 30th! We look forward to meeting you all at some point. Pete & Jo
cocolevi
Wow that was so quick We went out to Australia for a holiday 4 years ago and flew with Emirates, they couldn't do enough for us.
