portlaunay
This year is the 30th anniversary of the City of Perth Skyworks show and if you're new to the city, do please make the effort to see it. The first year we went I wasn't particularly interested, they're only fireworks after all. That changed after about twenty seconds and I couldn't stop grinning for the duration, it was awesome. We'll be taking up our usual spot on the Sth Perth foreshore, arrive nice and early with picnic in tow. The 30th anniversary show should be amazing, if you're out of the city then it's worth making the trip and for those arriving in Jan it will be a wonderful welcome. The official site isn't up yet but some more info here; http://visitperthcity.com/event/australia-day-skyworks-2014 Edited December 30, 2013 by portlaunay link added

We can see the fireworks from our upstairs, so we are quite lucky ...have heard some great reports about the event so sounds like it would be worth taking this event in! Judilc
We really want to do this as its our first year here, can you recommend a good spot NOR to view them from suitable for kids?
lozzachino
Sounds great but would parking be an issue. Just looking at a map and thinking maybe to park near the waca and walk down? But given we have a three year old i am not sure he will make it that late, anything past seven is a challenge!

Fantastic view from Kings Park, just be prepared for a long drive home after, also you have to get there early, and I mean early

verystormy
For those that need an earlier fix of fireworks, Mandurah will have displays tonight at 9pm and midnight. Very spectacular and the mandurah foreshore is actually bigger than Sydney harbor.
lozzachino
Thanks stormy. I have heard the Mandurah ones are amazing. Edited January 1, 2014 by lozzachino
Scot01
South Perth is probably one of the best places as is Kings Park. We've watched them form Langley park but trees get in the way and it is very crowded. Depends how old the kids are but I can recommend bringing bikes and parking near UWA in Nedlands and cycling along Mounts Bay road to just before the brewery - ten mins max and all flat on the bike path. you still get a good view, it's not crowded - can turn up ten mins before and as all the boats park there, it is a good atmosphere. Bring a radio if you can as the sound track to the fireworks is on 94.5 FM. You can then head north up the west coast highway and miss the freeway traffic. Guest guest9824
Just to make it clear, these are the Australia Day fireworks not NyE, Perth doesn't have NYE fireworks only at Mandurah and Rockingham I think! Don't want anyone rocking up to the Perth foreshore tonight expecting big bangs! edit....just read that the zoo has fireworks at 9.00 so you will see and hear some bangs but not at the foreshore:biggrin: Edited December 31, 2013 by guest9824
Chardy
Langley park is great for the kids, loads of free stuff and get the train, it's really organised so you are not waiting ages to get home, beats driving any day !!
