Not sure Rendleroo, we have a short term let for 4 weeks in Ridgewood and will look around for somewhere permanent near decent schools etc. It is scary and I constantly have things floating around my head but can't really do much more until a bit nearer the time, just wish the next couple of months would hurry up!

W have done the same, our holiday rental is south freo/north coogee. We have emailed the schools to let them know we would like to look around them and there is only one that have spaces for both boys. Many have said they are full but have to accommodate us if we live within the catchment area. I'm hoping we find both school and house in the right area. I know what you mean about things going around your head, mine has not stopped spinning. I'm worried about what is in the wrong place and will get sent on the ship when we need it in our hand luggage etc.. Reading this site is so reassuring though isn't it?! Everyone seems to have found what they are looking for.

have you got work lined up?

although you will find this on another thread for sure, check out this link http://www.myschool.edu.au/ it will give you the low down on all schools. Just put in the sub you are looking at and you can find the information you need. A point of note is, that we did this very thing before coming over to look (we are both secondary school teachers) and results aren't everything. Nothing IMO can replace looking around a school and getting a feel for it, what's good for one child may not suit another. If you are in catchment, they take your children. Private schools you don't need to be in catchment, you can travel to them and you can enrol before you leave the UK - hence securing the place. Remember that there are FEES for state schools if you are not a permanent resident so look into that too. Private school is very affordable compared to the UK. Don't be put off by long waiting lists.... I was told this too and both of my children has secured places in our chosen school upon arrival. It just depends on what is going on with numbers at the time. Its worth throwing your hat in the ring and seeing what transpires me thinks!

This may help you to narrow down your search. Good luck.

exciting and scary isn't it, we are flying 20 days after you

We are still awaiting our case officer to have our medicals and the waiting is getting harder as we'd like to book flights for May/June time but just daren't yet just in case anything happens...touch wood we are all really healthy though. We are looking into the holiday rentals at the mo, has anyone booked through Oz house rentals? Some of the properties on their seem pretty reasonable. Still loads of planning to do! Excited but also nervous too:laugh:

yes we booked with oz house rentals too, after looking at every website offering accommodation they offered the best value for money, bigger house for the money. Chester17 how soon after getting the visa are you going to move? You can do your medicals before you get a case officer if the wait is getting to you, we did.

Tojo you are not kidding about the suburbs:wacko:

Yes we thought Oz house rentals seemed pretty reasonable though they book up pretty rapidly! With regards to the medicals, I rang the hospital we'd be using and they said we were unable to book until we had a case officer? That was The Spire in Birmingham (little Aston)? Our agent has advised that the case officer will be in touch hopefully in the next 2 weeks so may aswell wait now anyway. Police checks all done and back too. We are just waiting to get the visa granted and then will be getting things booked and organised as we sold our house quickly last July and moved into rented October. We have no family etc in Perth and have never been there before but it was our last option as we originally tried for a visa for Brisbane as that's where my sister lives, long story but they removed my husbands occupation off the list and that was the end of that!! My sister couldn't sponsor us as her postcode wasn't on the list either!! Crazy how many hoops ya have to try and jump through!

Im the same, can feel the waves of emotion coming over me all the time!

We fly 13th May, can't wait but feeling very anxious about it all at the mo!

Good luck to everyone leaving in the next few months. Exciting times! :D

We have opted NOR - My older too will are 16 & 13 and will attend St Marks in Hillarys. Our youngest is 2 so we will need to sort out childcare for him when we arrive. We looked around several schools and originally were looking at the mainly high performing schools from the link provided. They preferred St Marks so that pretty much dictated our suburb. Having a school has kind of made the decision for us for now, as being as they are in High school this was a really important factor. Generally speaking the primaries receive fairly positive feedback, its the secondary school that you need to get to the right catchment for it seems. With older children to move across the world, it was an important factor for them to choose their school and look forward to such a massive change IMO. happier kids... happier parents. :)

This doesn't sound ideal but great to hear that you are nearly there! To try to put your mind at rest, we went to Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast and Perth before making a decision about where to live. We picked Perth. I have to confess that before I went there Id considered it merely a stopping over point between very long flights, however once there it felt more like we could make it there than the other places we had visited. Brisbane is beautiful, far less costly, but to us it felt more of a holiday destination and Surfers Paradise felt like Blackpool on speed. Don't get me wrong, my 20 year old said.. "this is where we HAVE to live Mom! " but taking everything into account, it was Perth that felt right. So I guess what i'm saying is, strap yourself down for the adventure of a lifetime. You still get to visit your sister and have far less of a flight time to do which is a bonus! Where are you thinking of settling in Perth? and good luck with it all... very exciting times :)

We've visited Brisbane several times and we do love it but the more I read and see on Perth the more it's appealing to me. I totally agree with you about Surfers Paradise, beaches are gorgeous but the rest is a little random..haha. We are on a state sponsored visa so after two years we can move from Perth if we wanted too but who knows we may love it there instead!! My sister is still really excited about the fact that I'm actually gonna be in the same country anyway and she'll visit plenty I'm sure and vice versa. We have been looking at the areas North of the city like Tapping, Ashby, Clarkson etc but hey that could all change when we arrive and start to look round. I have a 2 year old boy so we want to make sure where we settle has nice parks etc. Also will be checking out pre schools too.

Chester17 you are nearly there then, we got our visa just in time as hubbys occupation was taken of WA list just after the grant came through, WA was the last list it was on too!

I aggree with Zebradeb we have been all over Oz and Perth was the place we said we would live. Good luck

Same here!! We had the let down on the Brisbane visa and then his occupation was still on the Perth list, so we submitted the EOI and had an invite to apply, so did the online test and submitted it but then learnt that they had changed the list and removed his occupation again, long story short but we got only just two days before they officially took it off the list!! Seriously stressful, so this was our last shot at it, so we just need that visa grant now to make it official. Do you have family out there at all? And what areas have you looked at settling in? Sad as it is, I keep watching Wanted Down Under to get any glimpses of Perth suburbs that I can, haha.

It is a rollercoaster alright! We have no family there and a few people we know but not close to. We spent 3 months there back in 2005 but were in the CBD area so didn't see any suburbs. I have been looking north of the river around Edgewater, Kingsley, woodvale, padbury areas but like you it will probably change when we get there! I have been looking at streetview in Google maps to try and see what places look like haha!

We're the same, no family in Perth a few people we know and i hoping will build stronger relations once we're over there! Still looking at areas, my next focus after the house move this weekend x

Good luck with the house move! I'm sure you'll meet plenty of new friends when you settle in Perth, I'm hoping to meet other Mums and hopefully build friendships so that my little one can meet other kids, I worry that when my husbands working we may be a bit like "ahhhhh we don't know anyone" ...haha
