baking the last batch of scones, 100 done just 30 to go! busy week of baking, carrot cake, chocolate cake and lemon cake too...all for 140 people! thinking possitively as only 11 days of work left.

I can never get my damn scones to rise.

Remember its self raising flour , also do not over mix, once everything is combined stop mixing and be gentle. I don't roll the mix out, just pat it down then dip the cutter in flour before cutting out so mix doesn't stick to the cutter.

Thanks. I've tried really hot oven and not twisting when cutting....I use s.r.f . I cheated last time as I used baking soda for the first time which worked but they weren't as nice. Also tried different measures of milk /egg etc

Laying in bed with iPad on my lap. OH down the pub having a fair well drink with an old chum. Been researching Australian Labradoodles again! Spend too many hours thinking of the perfect dog name for it. We play a daft game in the car as we travel to and fro on the school runs: say any word (like road or town names) or object you see and discuss if it's any good. Tonight we advanced it to the surnames of famous people. Seymour or Finch are my current favourites. Also been researching how to groom them.

Akasully, can you please let me know what you find out about labradoodles as that is something on our shopping list for WA - a chocolate coloured one

Sully check out Lighthouse Labradoodles.... http://www.lighthouselabradoodles.com.au/ They have a good reputation.

We nearly had one of their pups but went for a Choc Lab in the end from Blackboy Kennels http://www.blackboykennels.com.au/. They breed for the Guide Dog Association and are very reputable. The owner is President of the Lab Society in WA too.

Ahh those labs look stunning! I must admit, just like stu I have fallen for a chocolate labradoodle too! Just like living my dream of living in Oz or should I say, deprecating of living in Oz, it always involves a loving doggy by my side. It would be our first so it needs to be right. Hence the amount of research I do on them. I have compared golden doodles but my heart and head takes me back to the LBD.

What am I upto now? Treating myself to a pint of real ale in the local wondering when I'll next taste british beer like this again. :)

You won't but it's no biggie. Grab yourself a pint of Little Creatures IPA when you get here, watch the boats bobbing around in the fishing boat harbour and watch the sun set over the Indian Ocean, you'll never want for warm, flat beer again.
