Lauren05
Hi everyone, We are a family of four and have our visas, we are debating on my husband going first to find work, house ect before me and the kids go has anyone else done this? millar.wall.1985
hey were planning on doing this too. ill be watching to see what peoples response is coz were in the same position. All the best Lauren (good name isnt it )
ali
A few people have done it because it keeps initial costs down. They usually rent a room in a shared house initially as a base to get themselves sorted - jobs/looking for accommodation.
Lauren05
That's what we were thinking in regards to cost, what worries us is if we go and don't get work our savings are going to disappear rather quickly but if my husband goes finds work and house first then when me and the kids go we can concentrate on settling the kids in to school and there new life. jamesw
I am sure that certain visa's require you to arrive in Australia at the same time, so you might want to check that out.
Lauren05
We are going in April to activate and have a holiday, we are going thinking if my husband gets a job he will stay If not he might go back later on in the year on his own. Raychelsb
I am sure that certain visa's require you to arrive in Australia at the same time, so you might want to check that out. As long as the main applicant on the visa goes out to validate the visa first its fine. So if her husband is the main applicant he can go out first and validate the visa and the rest of the family follow. I enquired about it because i was thinking about going out first but as my husband is the main visa holder, he would have to go out with me or first to validate the visa. He could however them come home and leave me oit there working.
Chardy
Just bear in mind that just because the main applicant had validated the secondary ones haven't so watch the dates !
SaffanZimbo
We are doing the same. OH will fly to Perth in early September and stay with friends till he finds work and and the girls and I will follow in November. We are really hoping he finds work quickly so that we can find a rental and get the girls into school ASAP after we arrive.

kayliandnathan
I asked our agent could my husband (main applicant) go out first and myslef and children joing him at a later date and i was told we all have to enter the courty together to validate our 489 visa. We too would feel more secure knowing my husband could go on to secure employment other than risking all landing together and both not having work for a long time. Lauren05
Good to here we aren't the only ones thinking of making the move this way, I would imagine after 2/3 months without work with 2 kids 6/8 in toe it could quickly turn into a nightmare. Ems
Good thread.. We are thinking that my husband will go first and when he finds works, secures a rental etc I will follow with the children. We think this is the best option because at least we'll still have one income which will hopefully take some of the pressure off
GazNorth
I have wondered about this too - if we haven't yet sold our house here it would give me a headstart too. Just feels like it should be an adventure for everyone though. Just another decision to fret over.
Rossmoyne
Totally get what you are all saying and it most certainly makes sense, but please, as I have said before, just check what your visa approval letter says as sometimes you all have to validate at the same time! Sorry to sound a nag and boring, but would hate any of you not getting it right at this late stage in the long horrendous process!!!
