emmabritton77
Hello everyone, We are relocating to Western Australia in a year or so and at present I am part of a musical theatre group in the UK. I am hoping to join a similar group in Australia and wondered if anyone could tell me of any groups they know of that do amateur musical productions. I know it sounds early to ask such a question, but it will play a big part in where we actually choose to settle. Thanks in advance for your help guys x

Thanks in advance for your help guys x Hi Emma, I think you will find lots of areas have their own amateur theatre groups. I live in Kalamunds and we have our very own tiny theatre and KADS which is our amateur dramatic society. I have posted a link too, hope it helps. Our state stage school is WAAPA, and it turns out some wonderful talent. best of luck. pea http://www.lookatwa.com.au/Entertainment/theatres.html
portlaunay
Hi, welcome to PP. Not sure about AmDram but there should be something seeing as the Fringe and the Festival are so popular here. How accessible something might be for you will depend largely on where you live. Places like Leederville/Subiaco/Fremantle will have a range of venues and theatrical type activities whereas like anywhere I guess, the further away from the city you are, the fewer the opportunities. The Perth Amateur Operatic Society might be of interest; http://www.perthmusicals.co.uk/Perth_Musicals/Home.html Endeavour are pretty big; http://www.endeavourtheatre.org.au/index.html And I just found this listing which seems to have quite a few WA groups; http://www.dramagroups.com/groups/international/australiax.htm
emmabritton77
Hi Pea and Portlaunay, Thank you for your fab advice. It is really helpful. I think you are definitely right about there being more groups available towards the centre of Perth. I'm off to google the fringe now as I haven't heard about that one before. Thanks so much guys. Have a great day. Emma
Rossmoyne
Check out this too. http://www.belcantopromotions.com/index/ Justin and Katherine are professional singers but are also heavily involved in the amatuer scene and actually run a Theatre School for Kids. Justin is a Tenor and is a shining light in the music scene in Perth, both professional and amateur, and performs with the Gilbert and Sullivan Society a great deal. Katherine comes from a theatre family and apart from running the Theatre School, is involved with many amateur groups. Both are highly talented and highly respected in Perth.
