Guest Jim
Hi All, I am in perth on visitor visa and only have Medibank travel insurance. Recently I have developed pain due to gall stones and need to get the gall stone removed. Could any one suggest and good general surgeon who can do that in perth quickly within a month? Other option I have is to move to melbourne or sydney and get it done. please suggest , which is better sydney/melbourne or perth. Thanks Jim
ali
I had surgery last year with Dr. Ming Yew in Perth - he's private though, would your insurance cover this?

ali
I don't know if you'll be covered for private care on holiday insurance to be honest. As Arwen said, you'll need a referral, then there's a consult fee. Your travel insurance may only cover essential/emergency treatment under the public system. The fees may be higher for private if you're on a tourist visa. What does your travel insurance say about surgery? You may be better presenting at an ED if you're in considerable pain. Lou8670
I'd visit the GP and obtain confirmation of the treatment required and then contact your insurer to find out if you're covered.
