Aidy Woodrup
Hi, My wife and I are moving to Perth in April, while Sam (my wife) is busy sorting things out like the house, the car, pretty much everything. I have given myself the task of getting important things sorted, like finding good mountain biking and road riding clubs. Is anyone a member of a club or can recommend one? I have had a "google" around and found a few but wanted to get a first hand opinion. Thanks, Aidy
rob-c
Lots of clubs about for both I do both but not in a club as yet Where are you headed? We are in the hills and invaded by road bikers every weekend, some fantastic runs in the hills Also mountain bike tracks @ kalamunda in the hills, link below, for some great tracks of all levels also look at the tracks in greenmount outside mundaring again all levels but I prefer kalamunda as all through forests etc http://www.wamba.org.au/projects/kc.php track details PDF at bottom of page Edited March 11, 2014 by rob-c
Aidy Woodrup
Cheers Rob, we're going to Fremantel so I was expecting to have to drive somewhere for a decent ride. kalamunda looks pretty decent, what are the runs like are reds comparable to the UK? Obviously I don't know anywhere to ride so was joining a club to get to know some good routes, and for a few beers afterwards of course. Thanks for the info! also do you miss the mud? rob-c
If you are doing it early morning on a weekend probably about 35 to 40 mins from Freo I would say if you like UK reds you will be good with the blues and blacks on the Kalamunda PDF, double blacks look tempting but not tried them yet plenty of mud during the short winter but I have to say its so nice to ride in the dry and warm for 9 ish months of the year some really good bike shops around, few naff ones not worth the effort glad to see you have your priorities right, don't know much about riding around Freo but I do know Little Creatures in the fishing boat harbour calls to me
Guest vstammes
Hello Aidy I'm a female road cyclist. Will be arriving in Perth beginning of August. I was wondering if you joined a club and have any suggestions? It seems there are so many over there! I have done a bit of racing but mainly like to ride for fun. thanks Vicki
portlaunay
I took my son and some friends out yesterday on the Kalamunda trails and it was awesome. I can't believe how well maintained and technical the trails were. We both loved it so much I'm about to splash out on a new bike. The PMBC can help if you're into XC but there are loads of road and DH clubs around if that's your thing.
Guest webbo
As people have said, there's so many groups. The Saturday morning lap of the river is a bit hectic at times with all the groups. There's a list at:http://www.departmentofgrouprides.com/australia-a-new-zealand/western-australia/perth-group-rides However, I don't think that it has all of the rides on it. There's also South Perth Rouleurs (http://www.southperthrouleurs.com.au/club-training/). It'd be worth noting that these rides are probably more in the training category than social riding! I found it was good to move somewhere first and then find the closest shop and see what rides they have. There's generally a couple of different speed groups. I'm riding with Riders Choice in Leederville but I've also ridden with Cyclemania. Both are good rides. Webbo
