rachell
hi, wasn't sure which heading to go under! can anyone tell me their experience of bringing/not bringing a dog over with them? i had my dogs blood tests etc all done, not long to go but am now having second thoughts on bringing her. is the journey going to be too stressful, quarantine etc, will she cope with the heat when we get there, will she chase snakes/ spiders etc. just having last minute doubts, if anyone could advise either way that would be great! Druid
We brought a 2 YO Golden Retreiver, she loves it, we thought of leaving her behind too, but we couldn't, she's one of the family, she soon forgot about her epic journey and now loves it, especially when we go to the beach

Amiio1
We have a 5 month old cockerpoo and the kids love her to bits. We hadn't decided what we was doing before we got her and now can't imagine life without her and don't want to leave her. Also worried the journey will be too stressful as she s a very scared/weary dog. Looked at how much it costs but does it go on weight? mikethebyte
Leaving behind was never an option. After jumping through the hoops to get Rusty out here in 2009 she has settled in well. 4 weeks in Baldivis quarantine wasn't nice but within 2 days of coming out she was her old self. The first time you walk along south beach in Freo and have a coffee and cake at south beach café after, then you will wonder why you ever had doubts. Pic is rusty (middle) and her 2 pups Freo and Jack (They were born here true ozzy's) at south beach in Fremantle Cheers Mick

poxonfamily
We are bringing our two cats with us. We left our cat here with friends when we made our first trip to live in Oz in 2008 and my daughter (who is officially the cats 'mum') just couldn't bear to go through the trauma of leaving these two behind this time - we will just have to wait and see how they deal with the trauma of travel!! Having said that, our tabby Cyril, came home on Monday night with a broken leg and has spent two days at the vets having a metal plate put into his leg! We were hoping to leave for Perth in the next 4 or 5 weeks but he needs 8 weeks of crate rest so who knows when we will be leaving now!! Talk about bad timing..... but just glad he is safe and managed to get home so we could get him treated. :smile2:
Nancy
We're taking our dog, he sufferes from seperation anxiety and was really worried how he would manage but we started him with a dog walker/ trainer last year to get him socialising more and he starts going to kennels next week, going to start with one day for day care and build it up to a couple of overnights to get him used to it Edited March 20, 2014 by Nancy

rubyron
We recently rehomed our beloved dog as we are planning to move back to Perth in the very near future. We have already flown him Perth to UK once before when he was younger which he didn't cope well with. Found a lovely home with the help of a charity and have kept in touch with his new owners, where he has settled in absolutely fine. The hardest decision ever, as he was our first child but he didn't cope well at all with the flight to the UK and now that Byford has closed, we didn't want to put him through even more stress with a second flight after a period of time in kennels, which he also dislikes. A horrible decision but the best decision for him. We put off moving for years because of him but have to put our kids first and they have coped extremely well since he has gone. Amiio1
Anyone know roughly how much it costs in total?
verystormy
We got our dog here so a bit different. But he did move with us from sydney to Perth and was fine with it and that included a couple of weeks in kennels while we found a place to live. He has a great life here. As I write he is sound asleep in bed with my wife. He will get up soon, have his breakfast then go and play on the beach for an hour. He will get another hour on the beach later as well. You do have to take some reasonable precautions such as not letting them into the dunes due to snakes in the dunes and if you visit areas such as state forests he needs to be kept on a short lead, again due to possibility of him running into the bush where there are snakes and that there is poison bate put out to kill foxes. But apart from that he has a wonderful life.

rachell
do they cope okay with the heat? aside from obviously walking early morning etc do they have to stay inside a lot?
rubyron
Mine was born in Australia (whether that makes a difference!) We would take him to the beach or walk him much later in the evening. We did take him to a forest park when it was around 25 degrees one day - much cooler than the peak summer temps you get in Perth. However, even on a short run he just had to stop and we turned back. When we took him home we had to cool him down with wet towels and leave him on the cool tiles for hours. At one point I thought he was going to die. It was horrendous. He is a short-nosed dog though which doesn't help.
verystormy
Mine copes fine. His walks are mainly early and later in the late afternoon. Better for us as well then. But he does have trips during the day. Yesterday we were out in the park at midday and it was in the 30's and he was fine. Though kept it to about an hour. In mid summer he doesn't like to go out for walks during the day, but does like the sun and has a doggy door and will often find a niece bit of shade to relax in. He prefers autumn and spring though for walks. He is not a fan of winter as he doesn't do rain.
Shona7
She'll be fine. We brought our 2 Chihuahua's over in December just gone. They had to fly to Sydney to do their quarantine as Byford now closed so had to also have an internal flight. They were so excited to see us. The biggest one lost a bit of weight but they've now forgotten all about it and are back to their old selves and loving it here. They had to do 30 days but quarantine has now been reduced to 10 days so even better for you! It's expensive but for us, it was all worth it! Colesy06
We arrived in Perth WA just over 3 weeks ago we bought our 2, 6 yr old miniature schnauzers with us who have never been in kennels. They had to go to Melbourne as no Quarantine centre in WA and were there for 10 days before flying to us. They have settled down really well and love exploring their new home so pleased we did bring them as they soon forget once they have been reunited with you. Quarantine centre will email you and let you know how they are doing and you can phone them too for regular updates.

sunflower
We cannot bring our Zeus with us. He is a 2.5-year old Rottie cross breed. The cutest dog ever. However, it's so sad, Australia doesnt accept dogs and cats from Turkey. We've rehomed him to a big family living in a big house with a large garden We're taking him there tomorrow. As we're flying out end of August, we wanted to give him some time to get used to his new family. This was the most difficult decision ever! He is our first child. I feel horrible for having to leave him behind. I try to console myself saying that the quarantine and flight would be unbearable on him. Of course if ever there were a way to take him there... Colesy06
Did you have to go and get them or did they fly them to perth x We used dogtainers to fly them from Melbourne to Perth as it would probably take you at least 5 days to drive there, it's about 4hrs for the dogs to fly. We collected them from the airport, dogtainers charge different fees depending if its a week day or weekend, was so worth the extra money to get them back on the Sunday though. bugsyburrell
We just used JetPets for Sydney to Perth, almost $100 cheaper than the rest and a very good service. Only downside was flight landed on a Monday rush hour, but sitting in an hour's worth of traffic was a small price to pay:)
