He did a 3 year degree and then PGCE so that seems to be the issue.

Strange, we've been informed that is the best thing to have rather than the GTP.

We know a couple of people in oz (one in Perth) with the 3 year degree and the PGCE and they've picked up work no problem. The only issue with the friend in Perth was that he wasn't put on the scale expected.

He has always taught high school Maths in UK but they won't clear him to teach maths here as his degree is not in maths, even though he taught for a year in Melbourne 3 years ago on a etcher exchange program .

Yes that would be the issue. As I said in my post #13, the degree must be connected to the PGCE, so as his degree is not in Maths, even though he has a PGCE for Maths teaching, his overall uni education would not be acceptable under the 4 year rule for registration with the TRBWA.

As an aside, please be aware that the GTP is not recognised in Australia and you will not be able to teach here with that qualification.

Ah cool, that wasn't mentioned earlier that his degree wasn't linked to Maths, all good then as my my Wife has all that.

Does the same apply for teaching Primary? I have a 3 year psych degree plus pgce in Primary Ed. I have already sent my docs of to TRB - just waiting to hear back.

Maybe.... but you would need to have a TRBWA judgement on that. It would depend on what some of the units were... if some were about child development or education, you should be OK. Be interested to know, so please post when you have heard back from them.

Would be really interested in this answer too. I have a 3 year BA Hons in Childhood Studies (with units in child development and primary education) and a PGCE in Early Years and Primary Education. Would really love to work as an Early Childhood Teacher but happy to do Primary Education if this is the only option. Just hoping my skills assessment is approved.

Hi all, me and my wife have been in perth now from 29th dec, she has not had one bit of luck with relief teaching, even after driving around to schools to hand them her cv, "twice" no luck with the two interviews she went for. Not sure if this is just because she is a secondary English teacher and there's not that much around at the moment. Hopefully things will pick up.

I have been told on here that it's mainly Maths & Science in short supply, although I'm guessing they are still hard to get.

What do you do Skit?

Hi, im a plumber, I have found work but it's still early days for us. My wife's temping at the moment, but really wants to be back in the classroom as she loves her job and it's what she is good at. Hopefully things work out but for English teachers there don't seam to be much about. Are you in perth ?

Not yet mate just waiting on visa. Whereabouts in Perth have you found a rental? It's such a big area isn't it to look for a job North & South of Perth CBD. We're worried that we find rental but jobs we find are miles away.
