verystormy
Hi Stephen Do you know where you will be working? What is your budget? What are your preferences beyond schools - beach? Hills / Country / new houses or older with bigger blocks / how far are you happy to travel. Perth is very spread out. For example, it is neary 100km from my place to the CBD. There are LOADS of suburbs. I know you are a carpenter, so it might be worth looking at places away from the city centre as most of the house building is further out

Zebradeb
Hey Stephen... this is what I would do... go onto stayz or another suitable holiday rental place and rent for a few weeks initially. This will then include everything you need and give you some recovery time and settling time. Use this time to get a feel for the neighbourhood and where you want to be. There is nothing like being there to make your choices. Check out myschool.au which will give you an idea of schools. Look at a map and pick the coastal subs you fancy, match to schools and narrow down your search that way. sometimes its worth looking at a cheaper sub and a private schooling option. Depending on your visa type you may be required to pay school fees in state schools from Jan 15. Good luck!
Deb
Hi all We our in holiday rental at the mo but we are looking at long term rental. Looking at the form that you have to fill in they ask for proof of income. while I understand where they are coming from if you don't earn how do you pay, but how do you get out of this catch 22 situation. We need some where to live but we are not working how have others managed. SJT
Hi Deb We were in the same position a few months ago. We printed off UK bank statements and our premium bonds showing that we had enough money in the bank to pay the rent for the whole period, we never had a problem, we got the first house we went for. Luckily, they are use to that problem here, so you should have no problem finding somewhere. We also wrote on our application that we had just arrived and were trying to find work. Good luck with the hunting.

DavidM
On a related note, given there seems to be plenty of rentals available currently with some reducing rents to attract, if you apply for a property and offer to pay a rent less than they advertise, and you get rejected on price can you reapply with another 'offer'?
