NOR or SOR

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

we used to rent in Riveton SOR but wondered whether to try the NOR as we are moving back and not sure where's best to rent. We have been looking on realestate.com and the houses are expensive for what you get. I know this from before which is ok, so understand everything is expensive, but I need to think about schooling for my 5 year old as well.

Is there a north/south divide??

any opinions/advise are appreciated.

Thanks

Jo

Huge North South divide, northerners don't like southerners and southerners don't like northerners :biglaugh:, just like the UK

It it all seems to depend on your daily commute, if you are SOR and commute to the city you are limited in options for crossing the river which bottlenecks everything, if you are NoR and commute to the city or surrounds your options are open, we lived in Harrisdale for 2 years, which is south of Canningvale, it was ok but not ideal, lovely suburb but we seemed to have to commute everywhere, we are now in burns beach, joondalup, which is great, my commute is not great but doable.

Only poms make it a north/ south divide.

It's perth...it has different suburbs.

maybe you would be better off posting what you want from a suburb ie schools, leisure facilities, restaurants etc.

Ie where is work?

You've lived here, first thing if your coming back is to change your mindset?

Dont worry about north/south divide. What's the best suburb for you?

first thing I would look at is commuting times, then take it from there!!

Thanks Druid, it will be my husband commuting but he will mainly work in CBD, but I feel like giving the north a chance! :)

i will need to look at schools and possibly if I do work an florists, but I am not sure of this as yet.

Gosh you have all replied really quickly thanks. Yes it is that old chestnut again! :) I am pretty easy going to be honest so don't mind, as long as its easy for my hubby to be to the city and a decent school.

Riveton was nice, but feel I should go for change.

Go for a change if that suits. Ie its a doable commute, which if working in CBD, then all avenues open. You find the perfect school, house etc.

I'm sure you Didnt mean it, but your OP was on north/ south divide. Which shouldn't make any difference, if you find what your looking for in one area, then that's the area for you.

dont go getting so hung up on things, honestly it will make your life a lot easier here.

Thats what we did, went for a change, our lease expired on our rental in Harrisdale, so decide to head for the northern beaches, get some of what we came for, Sun & Sand, instead of Sun, flies & Mosquitos in Harrisdale, boy are we glad we did, it's like living in another country up here in the north, I still have to commute South but it's a small sacrifice for the lifestyle, it gets too expensive being near the coast SOR and you are very limited in options, the commute for the wife into the CBD would have been a nightmare, my ex boss is a hardened Perth southerner, real rough around the edges sort, he hates people from NOR. So it's not just a pomme thing.

We our South love it did not pick it because it was south just liked the look of the area.

Got friends who are north and they love it.

The commute is pretty bad either way particularly if driving. We are now in Baldivis and love being next to the freeway for work, 10 mins to the beach, no mozzies and a shorter drive for hols down south.

Personally I find the NOR suburbs a bit too built up and on top of each other plus more expensive but thats ok for some.
