What's Munster Like?

Hi Chaps

 

We're heading out in a couple of weeks and will be based at the BIL's initially in Baldivis. I really like the look of Rockingham and had my heart set on settling in Waikiki (I liked the look of the area, proximity to the beach, house prices etc etc), but with a potential job on the cards near Scabs (very 'potential' at the moment), I'm really not sure whether I can cope with the prospect of a long commute each day. I'm still really keen on being SOR though, and have been looking at coastal(ish) suburbs within a certain price range which would be a bit nearer to the city. Has anyone got any views on Munster, or any areas similar areas with 'mid-range' house prices near the coast?

We have been living here for three months and loving the area. We were looking at places in Fremantle and drove around Coogee & Munster on the off chance as we couldn't find places in our price range. We went to several open house viewings and they were always well attended. We've managed to rent a 4 x 2 less than 10mins from the beach by car. it's an older property well maintained by the owner. We often take the bus into Fremantle which takes about 20mins. We don't have kids so can't say what the schools are like.

I would wait till you arrive and go for a visit. It is surprising how much areas appear different to what you think when you see them.

Cheers Kaz and Stormy - we'll have to give ourselves time to have a good look around and work out where we fit once Rick gets sorted. Just had an email to say that I've got the job I wanted (was not expecting it), so I'll have to see now how long I can put up with a Baldivis to Trigg commute. It's my ideal flippin' job though, so I would have been prepared to travel that far regardless. Just can't wait to get over there and start now!

Mate, look for something in the area you will be working. My work colleague, who at the mo lives scarbs, has just got a rental dead cheap in balcatta, just 10 mins up road

I worked at a Catholic school in Munster for a couple of years and thought it was an OK area. It use to be a big market garden area and there are still some garden areas. They were tradional farmed by Yugoslavian/Croatians and there is still quite a few of them around - lots of kids at the school had Croatian sounding surnames. I noticed new builds going on over the couple of years I was there, driving from the freeway across to the coast. I think it will be an area that improves following the development at Cogee.

Think the main slightly dodgy areas around there are Hamilton Hill and Hilton.

Good news on your job in Trigg. I would certainly try and live closer and driving from Baldivis would be silly if you could rent nearer. My guess it would be at least an hour if not more and that's without traffic delays.

Cheers Scot and Fifi. It does look like a pisser of a journey in traffic. Once Rick gets going and we know how much money we've got to play with, then we're going to have to have a look around aren't we. We we're planning on sending his CV out to welding/fabrication companies SOR, so I think we might move that search to a slightly narrower area around the city or further to the north.
