Cat
Hi all, just wondered opinions on what we should do when we arrive with regard to housing. Short term fully furnished rentals are very expensive, around 200-250 a night. While this is fine for a few nights, it would be a big bill after a month. We were looking at short term until be get our stuff shipped over. Any ideas greatly appreciated. Don't really want to commit to a long tenancy if we have not visited the area. portlaunay
Obviously location, location, location is a big factor but that figure seems a little excessive seeing as rental prices seem to have fallen recently. There are short term, fully furnished rentals available but they will always command higher prices and you may just have to bite the bullet, take one for a couple of weeks and use your time here wisely in securing something more suitable. We paid $850pw for our furnished holiday rental in Freo but that was three years ago and I would expect it to have reduced in price considerably now. Weedolly
You must be looking in the centre of Perth for those prices, you can get much cheaper than that if you move out a little bit. Look at oz house rentals or stayz

Cat
Thanks, I've had a look at stayz, prices much better! I'm currently looking at Applecross and Como, does anyone know what the commute would be like between Applecross and Bentley? I have a 1.5 hour commute in the UK, certainly don't want that when we move! Thanks
Bibbs
Time of the day depending, but 20mins driving. It's not too far. Why get a short term? Just get a proper rental that's part furnished, or get an empty one and live on a mattress/camp bed for a few weeks. I went to Ikea, bought a cheap sofa bed. It was rubbish, but fine for a short time. Lived for a while with nothing more than the sofa bed, 2 camping chairs and a 32" TV.
Cat
Thanks Bibbs, was just worried if we get a long term then we would be stuck and might not like the area etc etc But perhaps you're right. We have a 2 year old in tow so need to make sure things are right for him. Thanks for your help, I will do some research on Applecross and Como. Bibbs
If you can get a place in Applecross / Como you should be happy enough. Both are 'rich' areas (okay, not the top-top, but still in the top 10%). They have a lot of public transport links (10 mins to the city on a bus), near the free way to get about, and are more established (shops, bars, restaurants, big tree lines roads). Close to the river, and still easy to get to the beach on a weekend. Close to the city. A 6 month rental would get you on your feet and established. A friend rents in Como currently (moves out in a month as they have bought a place) and loves it. 3 bed town house, friendly neighbours and everything is close. dxboz
It's a legal requirement that you have to view a property prior to renting it - except for short term lets
