drhebden
Starting to look at options for buying block in Perth from uk - any hints or tips on process? Anyone done this?
ali
To be honest, I wouldn't until you're here and you can see where it is etc. ... unless you know the area very well. I haven't actually heard of anyone on the forums whose done it, so can't advise of pitfalls.
drhebden
Thanks - kind of know some areas well and thinking on 2 fronts really - securing plot in rising market if we can't get over there this year and/or a more speculative investment on basis £ might make more $ over there than being tied up and earning less in property/bank over here.. ali
I know someone at work bought a plot and had to build on it within a certain time - don't know if this was just associated with that particular purchase though.
drhebden
Yes I think that's the rule - you need to start the build within 12 months and before this you need approval from FIRB to buy - although this sounds relatively straightforward...I'll keep on researching! Cheers!
verystormy
To be honest, I would not do it. We were certain on where we were going to live. Had it pinned down to a couple of places, but "knew" it would be one of them. Once we arrived and spent time at them we quickly realized that both were the two places we liked least. The place we ended up was not even on the horizon. Hadn't even heard of it.
Lou8670
I thought we would buy as soon as we arrived and had a couple of areas in min but now we're here we both feel we need to take our time, let the dust settle and get to know the areas better before we decide. Of course it's also going to depend on where my hubby finds work. If he ends up NOR or somewhere more obscure we may have to reassess everything including the decisions we've already made around schools
