Zebradeb
Updates needed! I've got 2 weeks to go and feeling very emotional! These updates keep me focused on a happy future, rather than what's being left behind ... so keep them coming & cheer up an emotionally overloaded lady

I've had my downs but I knew I'd get home sick. It doesn't make me want to go home. The longer I'm here the more settled I'm feeling (and we're still living out of bags at my SILs!). We've met some lovely people and the kids are loving school. We just need hubby to get a job now and roll on spring/ summer! Bridges
I apologise for the length of time it has taken me to update this thread. Nothing major really happened in the two weeks following the update and then it all got a bit crazy again! The Rental – On Friday 13th June we picked up our keys for the new rental. I went and viewed it again, gave it a clean and took plenty of phots of any damages etc ready to send off to the real estate along with their Property Rental Check List – I have no idea how things are going to go when we move out but have been advised to make sure that you take the time to do this as it makes getting the bond back easier. On the Saturday we took delivery of our new BBQ and Alfresco dining set (the essentials!) and despite the rest of the house being pretty much completely empty the OH managed to ensure that we fired up the BBQ for dinner! We returned to our holiday let for sleeping which we had until Monday, at which point it would be all systems go as that was D-Day aka delivery day!! Receiving Our Worldly Belongings – In the lead up to receiving our stuff I was pretty excited about seeing all our things again but wasn’t sure how it was going to make me feel as it would concrete our move once and for all. Nonetheless, on Monday morning at about 11am, whilst the OH was at work, I took delivery of our belongings – all 117 boxes of it. The delivery men were very quick and unwrapped all the big stuff before bringing it in to the house and placing it in the designated areas – it may be an idea to plan where you want stuff in advance as it all happens so quickly. The smaller boxes just kept coming and coming until there were various semi-organised piles of stuff in pretty much every room. Luckily, the removal men weren’t adamant on unpacking all the boxes (some companies I have been informed do do this) as being a rental there are very little storage options, no shelves or cupboards, so I think if they had had to unpack all the stuff and were wanting to know where we wanted it, it might have just pushed me over the edge! They also, however, were going to try and go without putting up any furniture, which was not part of the original agreement – think they were just looking for an early dart – but when asked they pieced back together the couch and a couple of the big items of furniture for me. I tried as much as possible to tick off the boxes as they arrived and missed maybe one or two but everything seemed to there. Once the men had left approximately 2 hours later, I was faced with the mammoth task of unpacking! Thankfully, my very good friend had been with me all morning to keep an eye on the wee one and to help me get sorted – not sure what I’ve had done without her! So, for the next week or so and after a couple of trips to IKEA and seeking out bargains on Gum Tree to sort out our storage problems, we slowly made our way through the boxes until the house was eventually free – the garage is for another day! It now looks like a home and has such a lovely feel about it. 7 Weeks In – I can’t believe we have been here almost two months now. Life is beginning to take on some form of normality as OH goes out to work Monday-Friday whilst me and Ethan look for ways to fill our week, which surprisingly we are managing to do quite easily. I often start the week wondering what we’re going to do and then before I know it its Friday again. Our weeks generally consist of the normal boring chores – shopping, cleaning etc, but we defiantly manage to incorporate a lot more fun things then we used too – parks are pretty much a daily event and soft play centres at least once a week, either just us two or we meet up with fellow PP mums who have all been really lovely. OH at the moment has to spend part of the weekend doing college work so we don’t get to spend as much time together as we may like but the sooner he’s qualified the sooner we can start enjoying all Perth has to offer. Homesickness – Well, it has finally arrived! I think that now life has returned to “normal” and we are in a long term rental surrounded by all the stuff that used to be in our UK home, the realisation of what we have done is starting to hit home. Its little things and sometimes nothing at all that can set it off. It’s not that I’m regretting the move, there is just this feeling in my stomach at the moment (other than the baby!) that won’t shift. It’s not the day to day activities I miss or even the majority of my old life it’s the little things like popping to my sisters for a chill out on the couch with a brew and biscuit while the kids play/bicker in the next room! It is to be expected I suppose as after all we have made a life changing move and it would be weirder if I wasn’t missing my family and friends at all. I try to ease the down days by keeping busy either through jobs or just getting out and about and socialising. This definitely helps. I also just let myself have those days as the more you try to push them to one side the more intense the feeling gets, I always feel better after a little cry! I don’t want to put people off as this place is amazing…the views of the ocean as you play with your little one in the park or being able to pop to the beach at a moments notice or to one of the many beautiful parks, and that’s in winter – I can’t wait until spring…I just want people to be prepared that it will hit you at some point on some level so just roll with it! I’m hoping in time it will get easier and I’m sure my pregnancy hormones aren’t helping. I remember first time round I would cry if someone so much as asked me if I was alright so I’m actually surprised at how well I’ve done in moving to the other side of the world whilst hormonal! I have to keep reminding myself that it has actually ONLY been 7 ½ weeks so friendships are still forming and thoughts and memories of the UK are still quite fresh in my mind. Going Forward – As the weeks pass by the jobs list is slowly shrinking but there is always something that needs doing, like updating this thread! Despite finding work so quickly, the funds have taken a bit of a hit so for the foreseeable we will be tightening the purse strings but if we can get by now then we should be fine once OH is qualified and on a “normal” wage. We have a few visiters planned in the upcoming months, my MIL is coming out for 6 weeks around when the baby is due to help out – that should be interesting!!! My cousin is travelling and will be paying a visit some time in November and then my parents are out for Christmas. I’m looking forward to showing them the sights and also experiencing some of the touristy things myself as we’ve not really covered that side of things now that we’re locals! On the whole, things are good and I’m still very pleased that we took the leap. It is an emotional roller coaster but a ride worth taking. nikkiwd
glad things are settling a bit for you although its a shame you are suffering with homesickness, like you said it should get better as you go along and you have visitors so that is something to look forward to. We are at a similar stage to you, moved into our empty rental last week and got our movecube delivered on monday so it feels like our home now. When is your baby due and how old is your little one? Lou8670
Great update Bridges. Home sickness hit me really early on...I think in week 3 and 4...but I'm feeling a lot better, particularly as the kids become more settled. And you say, if it's going to get you you just have to ride it out. I'm sure I'll have lapses from time to time. I've particularly enjoyed being able to spend time with my niece who was only 3 weeks old when we arrived. One things for sure you'll meet lots if people once your baby arrives...just make sure you get out to all those baby groups and collect names and contact numbers along the way! It is nice to get familiar things around you but they also hold a lot of memories! I really love the house, it has a homely feel to it and a bit like deja vu sometimes - must be meant to be! I have a little 3 year old boy and baby due middle of next month eek! Best get sorting stuff out for the baba, preparation has been put on hold until everything else was sorted so best get a wriggle on!
Bridges
Lou8670 - I don't think I had time to be homesick at 3 weeks in! Things have settled now which is what I think is causing it. Also, because life is returning to normal, in the back of my head I think "oh I'll just phone...oh no wait, I can't!" it all seems so familiar that you forget that they're not here too. I have met some lovely people so far who will hopefully become great friends. Glad things are working for you. Are you any closer to finding a rental or are yous settled where you are for the time being?
EmsyEss
Such a great post and lovely to hear you're settling in well :-) how is your 3 year old doing? My eldest daughter is 2.5 years old and I'm getting a bit anxious about how she's going to cope outside her usual routine especially as she recently started nursery one day a week. How was his jet lag? Hope you get a little bit of time to relax before your baby comes now that you are set up in the rental. Thanks for the updates as they definitely help those of us who are next to fly out!
