Hi All,

Just thought I would say firstly Hi! Im Debbie im 27 from Norwich. I have lived and worked abroad a few times so I guess this is not completely new too me, however I have stuck myself in the deep end a little this time being that I know nobody in Perth (ahh) I am flying out in November on my working holiday VISA, (I thought this was the best option initially as I wouldn't know where to start with sponsorship etc) and hopefully if I love it in the first year... I can process from there.

Where would be the best place to start in regards to living, is there a similar site such as gumtree you can find rooms to rent and flat shares? Where are the best ares to live for someone my age, I wouldn't describe myself as a party animal but I guess I would like to be relatively near social area to meet people.

Work wise I am curious, naturally I will be restricted due to my VISA I am assuming? But what would be the best websites for jobs, I mainly work in customer service and sales.

Any small snippet of advise would be truly grateful!

Best wishes

Debbie :-)

Hi Debbie,

Great to hear you are making the move out in November! I'm moving out in October with my husband and two young girls. We arranged a 4 week rental in Kingsley which is a nice suburb north of the river and got it at a really good price. Might be easier for you to arrange a short term holiday rental and then arrange a house share via gumtree once you've decided where to live? We booked through air bnb website. Also my husband works in hospitality and has found http://www.seek.com.au a great website to start applying for jobs. I think they have quite a few customer service jobs listed there also. Good luck :-)

Hi Deb and welcome to pp.

Gumtree exists here but you can't apply for anything on the Oz one unless you are already here. One option may be a hostel for a week or two and there are lots in Perth that cater a lot for working holiday visa travelers.

Work wise, check indeed.com.au and seek.com.au

Yes, your visa will have some restrictions. The most important work wise is that you can only work for one employer for 6 months.

  • 2 weeks later...

Myself and my fiancé (will be husband by then) will be moving to Perth on 22nd August. We've initially rented a room in a house in Coongoonalup (near Rockingham) we used airbnb.co.uk to find that. Also doing the rounds looking for jobs and more permanent rentals. Good luck everyone embarking on the journey, I for one am completely terrified and so excited at the same time. The bonus is I'm not stressing about our wedding though lol x
