moss2oz
Almost 18 years ago I visited my sister and her family in Perth and me and my husband fell in love with the place. On our return we looked into how we could emigrate but quickly realised we didn't have the skills required or the finances to retrain at the time. We had our first child soon after and other things became a priority. We went back to Perth in 2004 and my sister and her family visited us over the years. The pull was always there and every time we had to say goodbye it became harder and harder. My husband went to college but that didn't work out and I decided to change career and went to University after our second son was born. In 2010 I qualified as a social worker and looked into emigration. I was gutted to learn that I had to have three years post qualifying experience. Over the years I had visited emigration seminars, spoke to migration agents and trawled the internet looking into ways of getting over to Oz. So many times I built my hopes up only to have a brick wall in front of me. I thought we'd never get there. At the end of last year I finally applied for my permanent visa. After a long wait it was granted last week and it still hasn't sunk in that I am actually going in September! Two years ago my husband left and is now living with someone else and has two girls with her so it is just me and the boys. I lost my Mum to cancer last October and my Dad died when I was young so there is nothing to hold me back. My family is in Perth; my sister and her two grown up daughters. They are so excited for us coming and have shared the ups and downs with us. Just wanted to share my story as this is something I have wanted for such a long time. I'm now 43 and want to say to anyone still trying to find a way, to never give up hope and if you want something enough then it doesn't matter how long it takes or how much you have to go through you will succeed. Good luck to those of you who are almost there. For those who are jumping through hoops, keep on jumping and for those who are lucky enough to have a visa or already there, I'll see you on the other side. Chrissyhannah67
Hi Debbie, I actually had a Skype interview for a non-government agency around 6 weeks ago. Interview went really well and they gave me really good feedback. However, they weren't in a position to offer me anything due to us not arriving in Perth until September. They did however ask to keep my details on file & keep in touch. Out of the blue they emailed me on Friday & asked me what my actual arrival date was. I replied yesterday and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there might be some good news when they get back to me. As you will probably know, there's a public sector freeze which is limiting the number of jobs at the moment. We're hoping though that it may work out perfectly for us if the freeze is lifted prior to us arriving, and a number of jobs then become available. My wife is probably going to wait a few months due to our youngest being only 5 months at the moment. Like you, I have family in Perth and have been back & forward over the years. Can't wait to give it a go and a job is the only thing we need now. Our Movecube container heads out next week :-) Chris

glenvin
Debbie Well done you, What a strong tenacious woman you are. I admire anyone who works and sticks at it to eventually achieve what they want even though life is not going their way. We also went through a really tough time over a ten year period but we worked through it and never gave up and it all worked out in the end. So many people give up at the first signs of things being tough and give up without fighting for it. Once again well done for giving you and your boys the life you deserve

jac2011
What an inspiration! You should be so proud. I first dreamt of Oz 10 years ago watching the first episodes of wanted down under, but I was with my ex husband and he would not even have a discussion on the subject. What he said, went and there was no way he would even consider it. 6 1/2 years ago he walked out on me leaving me with 2 young children and a career I had to quit as I had no night time childcare. Things seemed to hit rock bottom, however only a few weeks later I got talking to someone I knew from school and we shared the same passions for everything including Australia. He had just returned 4 weeks earlier from a month out there. It was like fate wanted us to emigrate. Its been a long journey for me too, one I thought would never happen but I too went to university and retrained ( I am just about to qualify) and found I need 12 months experience preferably BUT I am nearly there. The journey alone has made me stronger, it made my new marriage stronger and showed the children that there is a huge world to explore. I hope everything goes well for you and I am sure your ex will look back and realise what mistakes he has made!
moss2oz
Thank you everyone for your lovely comments. It still seems surreal at the moment but is slowly sinking in. jac2011, wow, well done you for never giving up hope and finding someone to share your dreams with. Keep me posted on how you get on. Chris, that is great news about the job. I need to get my finger out and start looking but also need to sort out moving my stuff. I'm not taking much, leaving most of my furniture. Living with my sister for a few months first and then renting a property from her in Willetton or Hamilton Hill. Thinking maybe Willetton. I'm lucky to have support over there but would lovely to meet up with like minded Poms when we get there. Thanks again everyone.x
