Devonscot
Hi all. I applied for my registration from the UK in November to Perth . It was then sent to Sydney and they requested further information which I sent to them . In May I was told my application was now being assessed. I asked for an update and was told today that it was now under review by senior management . Does anyone know if this is a good sign of its near completion or a very bad sign that I will be declined? ali
There are a lot of problems with AHPRA at the moment and old applications are being assessed under the newer guidelines, with diploma nurses being declined it seems. If you have a degree then it is probably a good sign.
Devonscot
Thank you Ali I hope so. It seems never ending!

If you have a degree then it is probably a good sign. Hi, I studied the diploma back in 2001, however ANMAC assessed my qualification as the equivalent of an Australian degree. SO AHPRA are potentially going to disagree? Be interesting to find out. AHPRA granted me registration a few years ago, I know they have changed their assessment but I would have thought there would be similar guidelines?? ImmilBees
Interested to see what the outcome is here, I have just found out the same thing, in fact I think Ali, you just replied on my thread about registration information, and informed me of this. Thank you as I would've found this out eventually but at least I know now to do something about it. I qualified with a diploma in 2007, in my last appraisal my plan was to have a baby and then complete a degree in Tissue Viability (I'm currently a band 6 tissue viability nurse) and was interested in burns units and skin grafting in the future. But if we made the move to Australia, I was going to go back to my roots of critical care andtry for a job in A&E. I have the baby!! Now it's a case of getting on the degree pathway so it seems! Does anyone know what the bridging courses are for?
Geordiegirl68
Bridging courses are being offered to some diploma nurses to allow them to register with AHPRA, if you look at 'what's happening at APHRA!' (Yes, spelt wrong!) on PIO forum, you may get more of a clue about what's going on, and it's pretty awful!

Geordiegirl68
Hi all - Yippee I received my letter of eligibility today . I can't believe have got it !! Only took eight months . Congratulations, can I ask as you've probably read of all the problems with AHPRA, are you diploma or degree qualified? I think from reading an earlier post you are degree, is that right? It's taken a long time all the same for a degree nurse! Edited July 11, 2014 by Geordiegirl68 error
Devonscot
hi Geordiegirl I am a degree nurse who qualified 3 years ago so found it quite easy to provide the evidence they requested . I have a friend who has 20 years acute experience . She was granted PR 2 years ago but has just been declined by APHRA as she has a diploma although she is currently doing a top up degree. I think that that a lot of experienced nurses who teach the degree nurses will be refused although they have a vast amount of experience . ! Geordiegirl68
Yes there are certainly quite a few of us! I have been a mentor to more than 20 students, both degree and diploma, but not good enough to work as an RN in Oz it would seem! Best wishes. ImmilBees
I went on PIO forum last night to read the what's going on with APHRA site. It was horrific, can't believe there's so many of you all pretty much left stranded because of this rule change! Surely it can't last long, as Australia needs nurses, that's why we're getting in on out skills assessment. So sure APHRA A&E going to have to re look at it's rules, as there are a hell of a lot of diploma trained nurses over here. The course now to be a nurse is degree only there is no longer a diploma option, so what, in 5yrs time Australia will start employing nurses again as they'll all be degree qualified with the 2 yrs work experience required! Miamai
Hi, I'm in the exact same position. I am a mental health degree nurse, applied in January - my info is in Sydney and with senior staff/a panel. I spoke to my case worker a few weeks ago who have me a time frame - which should soon be ending! So I have my fingers crossed!
