Arriving early September

Recommended Posts

So excited, we arrive early September. We have a rental sorted for a week, will need to arrange a 6 mth furnished rental in that time. Any advice about how we go about this? Been looking online, should we do this online when we arrive or call into a real estate agent? There's just so many of them! Mainly looking at Applecross, Como, Victoria Park and surrounding areas.

I wonder if I am being too ambitious only taking an initial rental for a week, but they are just so expensive as we need to be in a central area, close to south Perth for work.

I have really enjoyed reading all the posts on the forum over the past few months, feels so strange for it to be close to our time to move.

I think you may be putting yourself under a bit of pressure to find something in a week, unless you've visited before and know the areas you're looking at. My friend was in a holiday let for 4 weeks, she was viewing homes 2 - 3 times a week. Some she liked and didn't get, some she viewed and wouldn't live there, but she managed to get something really nice in the end. In a week you may feel rushed into the first thing you see when it's not your ideal. Any chance to extend your rental for a couple of weeks? May give you some breathing space.

Unless it's a private rental, then you usually have to have viewed it

I agree with Ali, that is a short space of time to pull it together especially when you are dealing with jet lag and the emotions of leaving everyone behind. It may seem very expensive, but in the long run it might save you a fortune. Again it depends on what your circumstances are, ie are you on your own, already have a job lined up, have small children. It took us about two weeks to pull ourselves together and even then if I am honest, the brain was still not working properly, as it felt that we had so much to do. Yes there are people that have come here got jobs sorted, long term let sorted and schools sorted in the week, but the majority of people take at least a few weeks to get sorted, if not months. It seems to me that you would putting yourself under a lot of pressure in that time frame.

I would allow a lot longer than a week. Particularly for a furnished place - there aren't as many as unfurnished.

We had two weeks and managed to get the house on day 13. You must remember that here they normally do specific open days for rentals where they allocate a 45 minute slot once a week and everyone interested goes at the same time. A lot of these are on a weekend so a week would not be very long.
