odies
Does anyone know if you can get PBS , if you are on a 143 visa ? only it states with the visa you can not claim any benefits , I wondered is this classed as a benefit ? The 143 is a contributory parent visa
Lou8670
You get Medicare but (sorry if I'm being dim) what's PBS?
Sideshowdeb
You get Medicare but (sorry if I'm being dim) what's PBS? Pharmaceutical benefits scheme. It caps the amount people have to pay for a list of approved drugs.
Lou8670
Pharmaceutical benefits scheme. It caps the amount people have to pay for a list of approved drugs. I thought you did Odies. Hence why you have to contribute $$$ to get your particular visa and jump through hoops having a medical. Don't quote me though...because I don't know for sure. AussiMel
With the PBS there is the safety net where once you reach the threshold currently its $360 for concession card holders and $1421.20 for others. After reaching the safety threshold the PBS prescriptions are dispensed at no further charge for that particular year. It is done as a family unit, in order to access it you need to maintain records of your PBS expenditure, but if you go to the same chemist, they will automatically do it for you. Once you reach it a card is given for it.
odies
thanks everyone, it was reading the medicare website and knowing I can not claim benefits for 10 years, I wondered if this was a benefit. So very helpful to know my monthly payments for my meds will be $35 I was getting concerned about the cost as they are free in uk. Still have fingers crossed to pass the medical.
