Job Interview Next Week! Any advice? :-)

My husband has a job interview next week which we are pretty excited about! It would feel like a lottery win to secure his job prior to our arrival in October! He has received great feedback in the past with regards to his interviewing skills but just wanted to see if anyone has any advice for him. Has anyone else had an interview over Skype?

Fingers crossed! :-)

Thanks guys! My husband is a hotelier and this job is for an Operations Manager position. Even if he's unsuccessful it's all good practice but we are remaining optimistic! He only has 3 weeks left at work now which is pretty exciting but it hit us hard yesterday that we are taking grandkids away from their grandparents (just had the in laws up helping to sort the house for two days), especially for my husband. We currently live within walking distance to my parents up in Newcastle but my in-laws live in York. @Raychelsb -where do you live in west yorks? We will be spending a lot of September at my in laws so if you are in need of a coffee with a fellow pp let me know

Make sure you can get as good a connection as possible. Shut down anything on your computer that might use up bandwidth - your browser/email client for example and it might be useful to restart your machine and your modem just to make sure there are no caching issues.

Take a look around the room behind you, that photo of you wearing a penis hat might have a great story attached but they're not going to ask. If possible make sure you're facing a natural light source, you don't want to be silhouetted. Similarly, dispense with as much noise interference - clock chimes, echoes, that kind of thing.

Write down questions and prompts and put them on a stand next to your camera so it's not obvious when referring to them and don't move around too much.

If there's any lag and a pause in communication avoid jumping in to fill the space, give the tech time to catch up otherwise you could do that awkward talking over each other thing.

Finally, don't worry about it, they're probably used to doing this a whole lot more than you are and understand the potential problems and barriers.

Good luck

Can't add anything much advice wise, but good luck! Make sure you smile when you talk and remember your posture. It makes lots of difference to your voice. If you're quietly spoken standing might help. I managed to get a job through a telephone interview before we came and I don't think any job has ever meant so much to me. All the very best and don't forget to keep us posted x

excellent news ladies...keep us posted!! My husband is heading to the Gold Coast end of this month with work (fab timing!) so is hoping he may be able to do some networking there to help with jobs for our move :)

excellent news @cutchibear! That's great timing! Keep us posted too on your plans and look forward to meeting you three once you arrive next year by which point I'm hoping we are all settled! :-)

I hope so @cutchibear, I'm so glad that Ava said goodbye to at least some of her playgroup friends and teachers already before the summer holidays as I'm finding that the hardest as she loved her little routine. It has been a pretty tough few weeks as I've had so much to do in the house with regards to the move that we've spent more time indoors than I would have liked. Keep having the odd outing to the book museum, softplay, park or beach but we are usually out most days so Ava has had to adjust. Guess that will all change on Wednesday when we are packed up and living out of suitcases!

Thanks @cutchibear! Sorry for the late reply - BUSY week! Our container has gone and my interview is done (it went really well and the salary is good enough for Matt to stay at home with the girls for the first few months, which I think would be a good thing!) I should hear about the job this coming week so keep you posted!!

I know it's all exciting. I wasn't looking to secure full time work initially but we think that one of us securing work if at all possible is a good thing and totally agree with what you say about working everything else out from there. It will make finding a rental and settling the girls so much easier. I'm a Front Office Manager working in 5 Star Hotels - most of my career has been with Marriott International so I'm already looking forward to the opening of the Ritz Carlton in Perth in 2018! Haha! I can always leave or even look at whether I can negotiate less hours once I'm employed and take it from there but at least it's an income coming in and I've really enjoyed my 2.5 years off with my two little ones. Great to hear your Child Visa App is in. Luckily because I was pregnant when we were applying for our visas, we were able to delay medicals (as I couldn't have an x-ray whilst pregnant) and include Mollie when she was just 1 month old! It's definitely starting to feel real now....Ava got into our bed at 5.30 this morning and started talking about 'Australia' and our' New House' but then said 'not yet stay at mommar's house now then aeroplane' So cute.
