English Rose
Hi all, just wondering if any of you have noticed many florist shops in Perth?? Are they mainly in the city?? thanks Jo x
Lou8670
There are florists in most of the shopping centres but I haven't seen any really decent ones. @Osmond8 has her own thoughts on this and I'm sure she's a pretty decent florist too; we just need to convince her to start her own SOR! Thanks Jo x Hi Jo, we have been in Perth for 7 months now, before that in the UK, i managed a florist shop with my mum for almost 8years but have been in the industry for almost 20years now! I thought i would like a 'change' once i got here, however, now more than ever, i am missing what i am most passionate about!... I am SOR in Rockingham and when i needed to send thank you flowers a month after we got here, i used a fab shop in Perth city and just swallowed the high delivery charge!!! ... 'Matthew Landers' he was recommended to me by someone on 'The Florists of Facebook' page! I have applied for one part-time Florist job down South, but didn't get it! They chose someone that had previously worked there! I look on the job sites fairly often, there are very little Florist vacancies and they all seem to be in the city....which is too far for me to travel for Part-time hours!...... My personal opinion of the local Florist shops is that they all seem a bit 'naff'!!! Flower varieties are very limited here, we are spoilt in England as we have absolutely everything available to us! Whereabouts are you heading to when you arrive in Australia? And whereabouts in the UK are you currently? Amy xx

Yes I follow Matthew landers on fb very nice, I live in Rushden Northamptonshire, not sure where we will be heading to to be honest. We used to live in Riverton SOR two years ago. My husband will be working all around but mainly the city. We did think try up NOR as we lived SOR before. But I like the look of Secret Harbour actually. I know we are very lucky here, I worked in a lovely shop and the Dutch men came every Tuesday and Thursdays. I have an awful lot to learn still to be honest but I also love it, even though very cold in winter etc etc. I got distinctions in level two certificate and diploma in city in guilds, and know I need to get into another shop to gain experience. There are no jobs here at all so had to just work experience for a long time and then they offered me a couple of days a week, paid. It's a shame about the job front, especially as you have so much experience. Sorry to hear you were not successful. Keep your chin up. Maybe you should start on our own!! What's Rockingham like?? I went there once to the crabfest (if that still happens?) xxx

I went there once to the crabfest (if that still happens?) xxx Sorry for the ridiculously late reply!... I thought i'd just keep you updated on my very slow but positive progress!..... I am currently trying to brand myself and come up with a name for my own Florist business, in time to launch at the Secret Harbour Spring fair next month! It's very early days but as you can probably imagine, i am so excited! This weekend myself and two friends are going to Leederville to check out the flower markets there and then after into the city to check out the 'top dogs' of the Floristry industry in Perth!..... i feel like a kid waiting to visit a chocolate factory!!!! I have plenty of ideas but i do wonder how SOR will respond to them?!!! Like you, we too had a Dutchman come over once a week.... I was also lucky enough to go and visit the Aalsmeer Flower auction a few years ago.... That seems like a world away from here in Oz, but i love Dutch design and this is something i want to involve in my own work! Sorry if I'm gabbling on.....just thought i would share!!!! Keep in touch..... Oh and i haven't heard of the Crabfest in Rockingham?! Sounds cool though!!!! Amy

I have been to the markets at Leedaville, as I did a very short course in floristry when I lived there a couple of years ago. Let us know how you get on. I am sure you will be brilliant. When I'm over i'll have to pop and see you. Are you opening a shop or working from home? If you ever need an extra pair of hands I am happy to help! Take care and all the best. Xx ....i was amazed of how small the flower markets are here?!.... and intrigued at how such small amounts can provide all the florists of Perth?!!...... I have a lot to learn here but am ready for the challenge!....... i have decided not to do the Spring fair next month, just because we have so much going on at home at the moment, i want to be able to give it 100% and i feel i can't do that at this moment in time!...... But the plans are for a shop, and the timeframe is within 6months!... When do plan to arrive here?... Would be good to get together! I haven't met any fellow florists yet!!!! Oh and i may need you to bring supplies?!!!!!!!!!! Sundries seem more expensive here too?!!!!! Xx
English Rose
Hi Amy, So sorry for late reply it has been a crazy few weeks. We Completed our house sale, and received our visa in the same week. We now live with our inlaws and fly out 18th November, having a stop over in Dubai, which I am searching for hotels but not got a clue where to stay. We are staying in a holiday apartment near the city which is costing a fortune but I guess it's the time of year. Would be great to meet sometime. Sorry my shipment has left regarding sundries ! I remember Leedaville not being very big. I guess it is totally different there regarding floristry, just knowing the different flowers you can get on the time of year and the availability! You'll get there though you have a great deal of knowledge and experience. You will be great Stay in touch. Take care.xx
