Raychelsb
We have a beautiful bed frame which my husband made out of reclaimed oak beams that we are considering having to give up due to customs issues tramsporting in our container. A removals firm said we could look into having it heat treated and certified. Has anyone had any experience with this i.e. - cost, and whether customs did let it in or if you still had to pay for them to treat it or dispose of it? Thanks as always
Druid
If I were you I would just wrap it up & put it in the container, AQIS will only go looking for it if you bring attention to it. They will be more interested in the box of shoes or the bicycles & tents, wrap it up and mark it as 'headboard', 99% of the time they won't give it a second thought, if they do find it & kick off it will cost you $400 to have it 'sterilised', having if heat treated & marked in the UK will just bring attention to it, they know that most timber used in the construction of furniture is processed, chances are your oak was processed before they used to make beams.
