midwife momma
So, I was speaking to another midwife about applying for my visa. She said that she was told from another midwife that the new AHPRA rules means that UK trained midwives will not be passed with AHPRA to work as a midwife in Australia. Has anyone got any recent experience of this or been passed since the new rules came into being? I read the rules and one part is that you must have cared for 20 women throughout antenatal -> intrapartum -> to postnatal , at least 20 hours per woman. As UK midwives we care for women in all of these areas but we don't often follow the same woman throughout this period. Is this going to be the sticking point. If so, why are AHPRA doing this if the health authorities eg WA.Health.gov make the effort to attend expo shows trying to get midwives to apply and then not to be able to jump the AHPRA hurdle. I don't want to spend nearly £7k in anmac, visa, meds etc. for my family of five to then be told no at the end!! Any advice gratefully received , very worried
beandownunder
I thought the changes were just to do with being degree-qualified and not eligible to apply for registration if diploma qualified?? there is a thread about registration I will try to look for..... verystormy
There are some changes affecting midwives. There are a couple of big threads on PIO that might have more detail. I think there in the jobs section.

mackie7722
I looked round Osbourne Park. I looked at Joondaloop but only externally too. There are no shortage of jobs given the fact they are building the brand new Fiona Stanley and the lady that showed me round said they were short staffed. I'm having a look around joondalup public and private in a few weeks times, while we have our reccie. Will see what I think, not applied for AHPRA yet and know it is more complicated than before, even if you have a degree

Now she is waiting for her registration number. Getting a permanent residency visa was easier and less stressful than getting APHRA registration!!!!
