CHAY1123
Hello, we are thinking of buying second hand car when we arrive there and is wondering whether for any tips in buying used car in Perth? Shall we only stick to cars sold by dealers? And if you can share your experiences in buying one. Thank you so much.
Plimthing
Beware, no MOT's in oz, so, if you are not mechanically minded or don't know your way around undur the bonnet of a car, take someone who is when you go and view. I bought my car from a dealer, second hand, and his 'electrician' couldnt get the boot to open with the remote no matter what 'he tried'. I accepted car anyway, drove home removed trim off the boot and discovered that his 'electrician' failed to notice the motor on boot lock wasn't actually pluged in! So i connected it, and strangly enough it worked. Dealers will always try to make a quick buck, thats there job, keep an eye on things like gumtree, some bargains on there, or even on here, lots of people moving around so they sell there cars instead of transporting them everywhere. portlaunay
I don't think it's any different to buying a car anywhere else in the world. Do your research, set your budget, get an inspection done if it's a high value car and if it's too good to be true it probably is. There are some differences with paperwork; http://www.transport.wa.gov.au/licensing/buy-sell-or-transfer-a-vehicle.asp Immobilisers are compulsory here and it's the purchasers responsibility to ensure one is fitted. I've never had a problem as every car I've bought here already had one fitted but I'm not sure what the implications are of buying, say, a vintage car that didn't have one. Perhaps someone else might be able to advise. Carsales.com.au is a popular site but Gumtree has a vehicle section too. The Quokka is a free ads paper and also has car listings. Druid
Make sure you buy a car with 'Rego' if not you have to take it to get inspected, similar to an MOT, but be aware, having 'Rego' doesn't mean it's roadworthy or mechanically sound, a car here can go from brand new to eternity without being inspected provided the 'Rego' is renewed every year, the RAC do pre buy inspections, if you are buying privately it would be worth getting it inspected and also do a HPI check online to make sure it's not financed. CHAY1123
Hello, if we will be buying the used car from a dealer do we still need to have it inspected by RAC?
Raychelsb
Hi From what I understand (my husband has recently bought a used car from a dealer) you don't HAVE to have it inspected unless the rego ran out over 3 months ago. So if you buy one with rego, no inspection, if you buy one where rego ran out less than 3 months, still no inspection. Thanks Hello, if we will be buying the used car from a dealer do we still need to have it inspected by RAC?
