ABZAlan
Thinking about renting furnished in CBD for first six months while we find our feet. What's everyone's opinion on this? Hope to be dinky's if missus can find a job, and were keen to see if we would use a pool, and missus is a gym junkie so quite a few of the apartments in CBD seem to cover these bases. My work will be in Canning Vale, if it's fairly flat, and there's showers at work, was considering cycling?
Druid
If you going to be cycling to Canning Vale, best to look for an apartment on the South side of the river, this way you can get on your bike and the missus can catch the river taxi, canning vale is quite a bike ride from the CBD but it's is fairly flat. Bibbs
Wouldn't fancy riding that far every day. Wind, flies, sun, rain .. If you are after the big apartment blocks, have a look at East Perth, Burswood, or maybe the tower behind Raffles on the Canning Highway. ABZAlan
Thanks, not sure why, but wasn't sure about Burswood? I know there's still some development going on there, with the former golf course earmarked for a car park. What district does Raffles fall under? Looking for somewhere with some bars/cafes and a good gym for the OH
verystormy
To be honest, I would give the CBD a miss. Can be like a ghost town out of business hours. I would also not bother with Burswood as other than the bars and restaurants in the casino there isn't a lot there and can be rough. Have you looked at Fremantle. ABZAlan
Fremantle has been on the list, doesn't look like we would get anything with a pool there, but know it's got plenty pubs etc. Victoria Park and Subiaco another two ares we have looked at, along with Como and South Perth. Hels
Burswood isn't rough !! I don't even lock my doors, and ive left my car open and windows all night a few times ive lived there before for 18 months and now im back there as I love it so much I don't gamble but the cas is great for dinner and drinks, the train is 7 mins into the city you can get a cab instantly there is estate security as well there is NO trouble on the estate ever and theres an amazing community along with a gorgeous café in the centre its quiet and peaceful, beautifully maintained there is building work but its in the distance and no one even noticed it each apartment has its own pool and gym you wont get that in the burbs
ABZAlan
Hels, thanks for that. What like do you think the commute would be to Canning Vale?
Laz
CV is a long way (depends what kind of cyclist you are I suppose...). I used to cycle in Perth and I'd say either side of the river is fine as the cycle paths are excellent. It's the wind on the way home around the river that gets you... As far as places to live the other posters are right, CBD is a ghost town after hours. My husband rented on Mounts Bay Rd (next to Mount Hospital) and I thought it was a bit quiet...no nearby shops etc. With your wish list I'd definitely look at South Perth. The apartments will be expensive though with pool and gym.
Laz
Hels, thanks for that. What like do you think the commute would be to Canning Vale? look up a cycling path map and see if it gets you all the way. Cycle paths in Perth aren't like over here - there are dedicated cycling and walking paths so no pedestrians getting in your way! and Raffles - that was a hotel in Applecross which I presume has been developed. Applecross and those areas would suit you actually! Edited September 22, 2014 by Laz
