LugubriousDuncan
Given the way the rental market is dropping has anyone negotiated a reduction in weekly rent as the lease is renewed?
Weedolly
I have, at the end of our lease we asked them to either reduce the rent or go on a month to month lease as we were not committing to another fixed term. They reduced eventually by $50 a week but we still only agreed to 6 months incase it drops even more. You have more bargaining power now than you did a year ago as there are loads more propertys up for rent.

LugubriousDuncan
Cheers Guys, the market seems to be collapsing. There's an absolute stack of properties for rent. There was a viewing of a place around the corner from us and not one person went.
rpakey
Guys This is very interesting, and yet another reason why one needs to be a member of this forum This is news to me! And certainly not what I am reading from the UK Advise we get here is that Perth is still booming, growing by an unprecedented double digit growth year on year for the last several years and rental and house prices will soon be out of reach v v interesting! Happy little Vegemite
Thats what we did! not a great amount but hey its a carton a beer a week! Party on! ha! You did well, we only managed to get a six pack a week off They also reduced the length of the agreement from 12 months to 6, which suits us just fine! You gave in to easy haha! They only offered us $20 off a week to start but I wouldnt budge, I started emailing them similar properties that were going for less than we were paying which Im sure they would have known. why do they treat tenants like we are stupid! dxboz
Lucky you guys I was told mine was under the current rental value! Might well be though have noticed properties around where I live renting for much more than 12 months ago - weird - think I must live in a bubble lol
LugubriousDuncan
The rental bubble seems to have burst. Even the agent tells us that they now have empty rentals they can't shift. I suspect it's because we're at the end of the boom and many have now bought or in the process of buying leaving a plethora of property for rent. Scuba
We're hoping to get over next March so this is very interesting. Think I'll keep a close eye on this thread.
bugsyburrell
Our lease is up next month (scary that a years almost gone by!), our agents have just called to say "the landlord would love you to stay on and happy to reduce the rent by $20 per week and even do that on a six month contract"! Might have to push for a bit more:)

Check what the going rate is round your way for similiar properties and if your is still high just tell them that you are happy in their property and would like to stay on but you have noticed that the rent round your way is $$$$whatever and if they can match it you are happy to sign for another 6 months.
