cutchibear
Hi Jo, I was only aware that 'MoveCube' was SevenSeas? There are other containers/transport companies but they tend to be larger.

jot1974
We used a movecube and whilst it was great it is taking a long time to arrive. We have been here since end of october but our movecube still not arrived. Bear that in mind when packing
LoopyLauren
Definite not silly questions, they are all the questions buzzing about in my head, that I am trying to ignore, till we actually have a visa in hand! ( My husband stictly won't discuss anything really till He know's we actually have a visa to enter OZ, So I am relying on reading your posts in the mean time, I am picking up loads of tips in the mean time! Cheers everyone and Cutchibear for starting thread.
LoopyLauren
thanks louise! Perhaps we are best avoiding the silica sachets then - i guess if vacuum packed, little or no moisture should get in anyway. Fabulous - may use the vaccum packs to fill spaces then as many of you have suggested! Do you have to write on every single item on your inventory, or simply e.g. 1 vacuum pack of baby vests, 1 pack of adult clothes etc etc?? Not quite the same, I but I use vaccum packs all the time in our loft which is quite damp and all the stuff up there has been up there for ages and always seems just fine when i get it out. I only had one bag of clothes that smelled funny cos of damp i reckon, but i think the bag probably had a hole in it, as it seems strange that only one bag of about 15 plus has had a an issue. x

Our light fitting's and stuff about the house are just DIRE! I can't wait to leave this house and start afresh somewhere! Agree, exciting but stressful, Only me that is, the OH thinks everything is just a breeze!

LoopyLauren
I was wondering about whether to take our bedroom furniture, The only new things we have bought in the last few years, is our wardrobe, king size bed, bedside tables and chest of drawers. I wondering whether to take the whole set or sell? I noticed that all the property in Oz seems to have fitted wardrobes included, therefore our wardrobe may be redundant. That said I like the lot and if I sell, I will get a piss poor amount I am sure. Maybe I should take the bed, and drawers and the leave the wardrobe, but then I can guarantee, we'll get there and rent an old house and need it! Any thought?, A lot of you seem to be taking very little..... I feel like I am going to be shipping the whole house once I start sorting out what's going and what's staying! cutchibear
hi all! great to see more people on this thread @LoopyLauren - with regards to the vacuum packs, is there a knack to them? I've filled two with my little boy's clothes and are just stored under a bed at present, but already they are full of air.....I must need a lesson in vacuum packing...any advice welcome! Will check out Doree Boner thanks Jo! thanks @jot1974 - that is taking a long time huh!! Perhaps we should ship ours now lol! Did you get a large one? It says 86 days on the website quote. With regards to what we are taking - a king size bed, chest of drawers & bed side table from our room. Our little boy's cot and cabinet plus ALL his toys, high chair etc. Then other bits like our kitchen table and chairs, book shelf and then kitchen items. I hope it will all fit. Not taking a sofa or any other beds or white goods. People say that you can fit a surprising amount in them , so fingers crossed!!

DangerousDave
Excellent @DangerousDaveWhich size have you gone for and what date is it coming? We've gone for a large cube. It arrives on 31st March. We are having to be quite strict on what we take. We've got a ship, skip or sell policy.
cutchibear
Great...we want the large too. Let us know how it is! Sounds like the policy we had when we sold our house...still a few items to sell!
DangerousDave
I'll let you know. I'm going to mark out the dimensions of the movecube and have a dummy run at packing closer to the time. Our house is for sale and to let now. Got a potential tenant for April coming on Saturday to look around. Lots to do before the 31st March! cutchibear
good luck with the potential tenant @DangerousDave if they go ahead, will you stay with family in the interim?
DangerousDave
good luck with the potential tenant @DangerousDaveif they go ahead, will you stay with family in the interim? Cheers @cutchibear. The estate agent called twice today with two more potential tenants. We've only had it on the rental market for two days. Things definitely move quicker than when trying to sell. We are staying with the wife's parents from the 1st April until we go. We thought we might as well get a months salary with no mortgage to cover. cutchibear
Absolutely @DangerousDave one of the perks for us at present!
DangerousDave
Definitely. Only downside is they live 50 miles away. But you can't have everything.
cutchibear
how did you pack mattresses in your movecube? We will have our king size mattress plus our child's cot mattress. Should we wrap them in something?! You are probably figuring - my worst fear is the cube arriving and everything being mouldy and damp!
