they asked the question , if anything had changed ? they asked for me to complete an australian police check as I had spent over time more than 12 months in Oz. that came back within 48hrs, no hassle at all. They asked for the rest of the money, very quick. Hope you get here for christmas.

Good thread. We are being told by our migration company not to do the medical checks or police checks until we get assigned a case officer, which is likely to be November/December (We lodged our 143 on 1st June 2014), however, we have been told by another MARA agent, we should be doing these now, so that once the case officer is assigned, both of these are done, and ready to send, speeding up the process. Has anyone else experienced this, or if you went ahead and had the checks earlier (I believe they are valid 12 months) did this help speed the process, or did it cause any issues?

Steely we did ours in the April as per the paperwork, yes it speeded up the process as everything was completed and ready for the money to be paid, however it did put the move to Oz very quick for us as we got the visa the first week of Jan and had to validate by April 23rd. If you are moving straight away then I would do medicals < mine took 2 months as I had to have a specialist report > the police checks were around 2 weeks, the AOS took about 6 weeks and a lot of my sons time.So yes it does speed up things for you.

Assuming you won't need need police certificates from any location other than the UK (and Australia - if you have spent more than 12 months there in the last 10 years) I would await the communication from your case officer - given that you want to give yourself a much time as possible to enter Australia after visas are grant.

Arranging medical examinations and police clearances too early simply reduces the time between visa grant and the date by which you are required to enter Australia.

The medical examinations and police clearances can be arranged while the Assurer is progressing the AoS.

Best regards.

Thanks Alan, but I may well be moving here employed with my current UK employer, and need to be in Oz, as early in 2016 as possible, (January is best) assuming all goes well with the visa. So with this in mind, would I be best doing the checks now so that they are available to be sent on when required?

Hi Steely.

Maybe talk this through with your migration agent?

Best regards.

If you're Australian then it should be easy for you. You need to apply for a partner visa https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Visa-1/801-
