jen140977
Hi all, in UK I enjoyed pottering in the garden and grew some dwarf fruit trees. Everywhere I look in Perth people are growing lemon trees. Anyone tried, any thoughts on grow your own. I can only use pots as we are in rented. If I can get a good crop I promise to share!!, ps there is a small space workshop at Baldavis Mary Davies library on Monday 27th. You need to book a place. I found details in local library. portlaunay
Not sure you'd get a good yield from a pot unless it's a particular variety suited to that. (I've no idea really, I just haven't seen any in pots) They do grow very easily though, we do nothing to ours and it fruits enough to keep our gin happy throughout the year. Akasully2
How about avocado? Can they be grown here?
portlaunay
How about avocado? Can they be grown here? Yes, but apparently they need loads of sunshine and loads of water. We have one in our yard that has been in the ground for 10+ years and it has never produced any fruit. The previous tenant planted it and tried everything without success. liloharry
I bought a dwarf lemon tree 2 years ago and had 3 lemons off it a couple of months ago. I'm in a rental and have 2 lemon trees, 1 x mandarin tree, 1 x orange tree, 1 x blueberry tree and a lime tree all in pots and they all do well. Akasully2
I would love to have my own lemon tree when I get our own house. Will give the avocado a miss then but surprised that have trouble here. I saw them growing in Spain and thought they would love it here. Wouldn't want to be constantly drenching it, sounds costly on the water bill.

Tia2
Hi Jen I have... a lemon tree, an orange tree, a blueberry bush, a grape vine, a red delicious apple tree, a plum tree and a granny smith apple tree. I am also growing different lettuces, onions, leeks, beef toms and cherry toms, kale, corn, broad beans, and cucumbers. All grow really well here. There is a fantastic garden center that does great fruit trees - SJ plant supplies Hope this helps. Some of my fruits are in pots and the others are planted in the garden. I love gardening. Also try the facebook page - let it grow. They do lots of meets and swaps etc and is local to us x
