Kermit
Hi there, I was wondering if anyone could help, we are due to fly out in February so trying to organise as much as possible now. I've got to two dogs - Joey 8 & Tilly 10. I've contacted Petplan who I have been told is the best insurance company and they have advised they can only offer a 12 month policy due to their age, which means I cannot claim for anything that has already been claimed in the 12 months for the following years....currently they are on a lifetime policy. Has as anyone found an insurance company that offers lifetime policy cover or recommend one that I could try? If anyone has any questions about anything else regarding pets, I'm a veterinary nurse and have done extensive research in most things so am happy to help, just getting stumped on insurance! thanks in advance x
elfie
Have you tried looking at BOWWOWMEOW that is another company. You may have to go with that as most new policies only insure up to the age of 8 yrs plus there is a 30 day wait time after policy starts. Good luck

Rossmoyne
Choice consumer group have recently undertaken an investigation into pet insurance. The resultant report makes interesting reading and they totally bag Pet Plan. You can access the report from their website if you are a member of Choice or you can purchase a one-off report. http://www.choice.com.au/reviews-and-tests/money/insurance/personal/pet-insurance-policies-review-and-compare.aspx
Kermit
Thanks Rossmoyne and everyone else that replied. By "they totally bag petplan" do you mean they came out on top? Sorry maybe being a bit slow but never heard that saying before!
Rossmoyne
Thanks Rossmoyne and everyone else that replied. By "they totally bag petplan" do you mean they came out on top? Sorry maybe being a bit slow but never heard that saying before! Sorry Kermit I should have explained better. "Bag", means "useless, awful, leave well alone"! It appears that with Petplan you take out an annual policy and cannot cancel it if your pet dies within that year, so to all intents and purposes, you are still paying for pet insurance for a dead pet. The whole issue has gone viral with the pet owning community, animal rescue associations etc. A tiny clause hidden away in the miniscule blurb apparently so it pays to read the entire policy before taking it out. Also Pet Insurance companies in Oz will not cover pets older than 8 years.....
