Plimthing
So the flying kangaroos finally announced today that they are closing Perth base and sending their aircraft east. The very aircraft that they needed me sooo badly for that they were willing to sponsor me for 457 visa. I find out on friday if i have a job, home and 90 days to stay in Australia. Ironically, i fly back to UK in 2 weeks for a christmas holiday. My wife and kids might not be returning with me as i close up everything here. Just as we were all starting to settle in a bit and dare i say it, enjoying life in Oz, hence no wity comments on here! Wonder what life holds for me next... Guest Guest6235
Sorry to hear that @Plimthing, are there no other jobs around that can utilise any skills you have or does your visa type determine that? Or will they offer you a transfer to the East? Edited November 25, 2014 by Guest6235
cocolevi
I hope you can sort something out soon x
Plimthing
Because of all the Qantas job cuts over east, my profession has been taken of all but one of the skills list. Only way is for company sponsor. Virgin don't do it, only got one more option. the planes leave in march, i have 90 days from when I'm told to go to get new sponsor or I'm Blighty bound again! Druid
Have you got baby dash 8, if so skippers or airflight will take over sponsorship,or sponsor you, airflight are in the process of taking a canadian on a 457 who has just been made redundant by skytrans in Brissie

Plimthing
it is the hazzard of the dreaded 457. i will be on topof any list to go because of it. they can't be seen to let an aussie go and keep me, the unions would be all over it! Just keep smiling, and keep my dignity, despite how i feel inside. Its the british way isnt it?

Unfortunatley, the kids school life will be messed up for two years. Missed deadline to get them in for 2015 start, so will be 2016 till they get in the local school. Something else to whinge about! As you know it's only a pisstake:wink:You're a realist and tell it like it is and not PP/mumsnet. You will sort it,as you will look after the family. Yeh,we are in Mandurah, been here a couple of weeks. Had a good look around and been back up NOR again today. Nice thunderstorm all the way back and 2 1/2 hrs from Jindelee beech!!! I am not paying $450,000 for a half decent plot of land. We only need a small 3x2 and it would be approx $250,000 all in with everything we need. But 450k for a plot of dirt "near" the beech is a windup. We are going to have a look at 1 yr old houses that are all completed later tonight on the web when little man is in bed. Then tomorrow have a look at some land deals SOR Love the country, love the lifestyles and the attitude of the people. But,and a big but! We have a great life in the UK,wife doesn't have to work,I'm my own boss with a small mortgage and a big house. Here we would both have to work and we would have a large mortgage and a smaller house...........decisions decisions. It's been a worthwhile 2nd reccie now for the decision. good luck on Friday. Plimthing
yeah i know youre a wind up merchant but forgive me for being a bit sensitive at the moment as its my family and not just me. I know what you mean about the prices for dirt, i wished it was dirt then things might grow, but its sand, which makes it worse! Wasn't there a song when we were kids at school that went 'foolish man bult his house upon the sand...wise man built his house upon the rocks'?? or am i being forgetfull in my old age!? Yeah we have the same thing with work too. my days off wife works, so as beautiful as the place may be, time to see it is at a premium. I had a good job in Uk with big prospects, but my sense of adventure took over my brain cell (s) and bought us out here. Wished my other brain cell was not pickled in Boddingtons that day... Friday brings whatever. Have you seen the new Qantas add? 'welcome home and bringing you home' in the slogan... Ironic as they will be flying me business class back to UK. Guest Guest6235
It will be a shame @7cdb if you don't give it a go, you've gone this far and could be your chance. Maybe think of it like us, we definitely want to give it a year out there and then hopefully two, we will then reassess the situation and see want we want. Think of the experience your lad may get even if it means not having the lavish lifestyle and your wife having to work. It's your way of not buying us a beer. Tigerbalm
I'm going to appear as a proper stalker as I'm not much of a poster but I really am sorry to hear of your predicament. I'm an airline employee too and I know how fickle and fragile the industry can be. Hope something comes good for you and your family, 90 days is not long enough to make a life changing shift. Plimthing
How old are your children @Plimthing? Have they enjoyed living in WA? they are 2 and 7. They enjoy it yeah, but they get bored of beach and parks quickly! The eldest excels at school, but we are not overly impressed with education over here. She reads fantastically well for her age but some of the books she gets given are like for a 4 year old. kids tend to settle quicker than adults. next 48 hours are going to drag whilst my mind goes crazy!
