Vic321
Hi Just wondering if anyone can help. We are looking to import our car over from the UK. Has anyone on here done this?? And what kind of costs would we incur?? Many Thanks Vicky
Bibbs
There is load of info on this. Generally it's suggested not to bother unless it's something 'premium' or something 'classic'. 964 turbo -yes, VW golf - no.
portlaunay
Talk to Iron Chef/ Iron Lady Imports but as Bibbs says, it's a false economy for many.
Vic321
We have not long bought a Honda CRV and we do have a classic ford rs which he would love to bring but wasn't sure what to do. I'll talk to Iron Chef Thanks for your help
portlaunay
Iron Chef don't usually advise on the viability of bringing vehicles across, just the process of doing so. Given that the Honda is very common here, may have some Euro specs that make it different to AU cars and will always be an import you might find you have to pay for changes prior to registration and then it's going to be harder to sell and worth a lot less than an AU car. I may be wrong, please do look further into it, I just want to make you aware of the potential issues. Also, don't be fooled by the 'they're twice the price in WA' claim, once you're here you'll hopefully be earning $AU and that makes a huge difference. If you work in the public sector you can also take advantage of things like Novated leasing. The RS on the other hand... well, what is it? How classic? There are lots of classic car clubs, many specialists and there are certain benefits that can be had by being a member. I'd get in touch with some local clubs and see what they think about bringing it across. You may find that some models didn't even come out here so they won't be appreciated. odies
I think iron lady do an A B or C thought process on viability on taking a car across, they did when I was looking. Worth an email , have a look on their website. I have to say it is very costly.

Laz
Hi Just wondering if anyone can help. We are looking to import our car over from the UK. Has anyone on here done this?? And what kind of costs would we incur?? Many Thanks Vicky we are doing this at moment. The car is going with the shipment - about £6k for 40 ft high container. Then I think I'm expecting around $5k at the other end with inspection, registration etc. It looks worth it for a decent car.....plus less to fork out for when you arrive. Our car is only two years old so made sense to take it when I looked at prices of second hand cars in Australia.
