How easy is it really.....

We were planning on making the move the end of February but have been reading some concerning stories about finding work. We don't expect to walk straight into jobs but I'm starting to feel worried it could take months. Has anybody else got the same worry or struggling to find work?

If you want to make the move and have no regrets then go for it and see what happens. If unsure then have a good think.

We found it hard fot OH to get a job, and when we thought we have no money left and we need to go back it happened he got a job.

Good luck in what ever you decided

Thanks for your reply. It is the unknown that's scary, if only I had a crystal ball :-)

We fly out at the end of January and are also flapping, I would ignore daft posts about unemployment rates as there is a little bit of difference in size of u.k to Australia, I've been sending my C.v out for months and recently had a positive Skype interview, I have been contacting companies in my field even if they are not advertising a job as you may get lucky and be in the right place at the right time, I keep saying to my wife that fortune will favoure the brave ha!

Thanks for that, very wise words? All the best for the move over. We're going to make our decision very soon as our visa runs out middle March? so no pressure!!! Our own fault kept putting it off for various reasons.

Hi, I believe it all depends on being in the right place in the right time and a bit of luck and a shining resume. We got our pr visa in april, booked tickets for september. We started applying for jobs when we were still in Turkey. Then in July, one of the companies I applied for replied and invited me for an interview (which was in 6 days!) I didn't want to miss this opportunity, so I cancelled my ticket and booked another one. I had to pack in 3 days, visit family and say goodbye. I flew to Perth by myself because my partner had to stay back to pack the house. So he came 2 months later on our original flight.

I went through the first interview, then was invited for the second round, then the later stages followed and after waiting for a month for all the process finally I got the golden email. So I was lucky and it was worth all the trouble to come on my own and spend much more on ticket... I found a job literally from 12000 kms away... But my husband (mechanical engineer) has been in Perth for 4 months now... He has had no luck until now. He has been applying for jobs that perfectly match his resume but no luck to this date. We feel blessed that we can pay the rent and get by. But I know patience will pay eventually. I cannot advise anyone to come or not to come. There are many jobs if you want to earn money, but it may not be your own occupation, maybe you will need to do some casual jobs until you've found what you're looking for.

Good luck X

I would slightly disagree with Keith.

The he economy is certainly showing some major issues and even the reserve bank has suggested a recession is on the cards.

The he state and federal government are slashing budgets and making significant redundancies. One of the measures is to cut salaries for teachers, police and nurses by 10%. 40% for the rest of the public sector.

If if the iron ore price stay where it is (without dropping any more) then expect major lay offs in the next couple of months. Even the gold guys are suffering as although the price seems good, it is borderline for a number of mines.

Hi keith

could I ask what line of work you are in, and what line of work you got a Skype interview through? We're heading over soon and starting to panick about work a bit.

Hi wulber78,

I'm a gas fitter by trade and luckily that's the line of work my Skype interview was for, I must have sent over 100 C.V's out to all local companies with a covering letter explaining my current position. I know we don't live in Australia at the minute and from what very stormy says it maybe time the reserve bank has to act. The problems in the U.k at the minute are something we can comment on as we are still here , The U.k is in a downward spiral which we don't want to be a part of anymore and once the interest rate is increased there will be mayor problems for many lenders. I would keep persevering with the job hunt and keep your head up as you may just get lucky!

More daft to ignore it Keith. Unemployment is unemployment no matter how big or small the land mass is

Hi, its not easy but that doesn't mean impossible. It is no longer an employee market but an employers. I have recently been recruiting for a customer service administrator (i'm not in recruitment this was to work for me) I had a shed load of applicants and several recruitment agencies contact me.

Just be prepared to work hard for that job, get the resume (not cv) spot on for the advert. Good luck.
