Laz
Hi...just want to get an idea of monthly cost for health insurance before I shop around. We are a family of 4. And does anyone have insurance which provides a few perks? In the UK we got free movie tickets, discounted trainers etc. and I've heard of similar things here in the past (not the movie tickets though!). Thanks! Lou8670
@Laz if you go to the Aussie BUPA site it'll give you quotes for all different levels of health insurance and will take into account your expected salary and age so it can calculate how much rebate you'd get from the government. Obviously different providers will price their policies differently but each policy is the same price for all permanent residents no matter what medical conditions or past claims you've made; the only difference being how much rebate you'd get if any. You also might find your future employer will give you health insurance as part of your salary packaging. nikkiwd
We pay $190 per month with HCF for basic hospital and good extras package. We are a family of 4 and we unfortunately didn't get any perks!
Nikkis2000
Ours was around $1250 for the year. Basic hospital plus extras which I have used and found to be really good. We're with HCF. If you're over 30 also don't forget to get Medicare to send you a letter stating you are a PR (must be done in the first 12 mths of being here) otherwise they slap you with a huge loading for being over 30 and not having had medical insurance before. The % increases for every year over 30 you are so it can make a big difference to your premium.
