Agents & Water bills

We have been told by the agent managing our rental that they will just invoice us for our water charges every 2-3 months and we won't see the bill at all. Me being suspicious, my question is do agents add a little more to the actual water usage bill for their 'efforts' of managing the property and the tenant is none the wiser. We are going to see the agents this morning so I will be asking them if we can see a copy of the water bill, not sure if I'll be successful.

My agent still hasnt given us a water bill for all the time I have been in this rental, and I havent asked! What a stupid way of doing things! When I lived in Melbourne our bill was no more than $45 a quarter, so I will be asking to see the proper bills as well before I move out of here in a few weeks. I know someone who says they just get charged and average cost but their monthly cost was more than what I paid a quarter, plus we are not really average as my partner works FIFO so only 1 adult and a preschooler, will see what they come up with. If the agent is receiving a water bill from the water company there should be no problem in showing you the exact amount, as it says on the lease you pay for water usage, not what they think they can screw out of you!

Ha ha sweat it out with a cool flannel. We went round your neck of the woods today, popped to the IGA. If you haven't already done it have you taken your daughter down Duffy terrace off Whitfords to see all the roos on the field, we went Sunday night after tea.

Water bills are low over here, even with retic, most owners only pass on a percentage of the water bill not all of it, especially if they have retic, this way the garden is getting watered and the tenant doesnt have to pay for it, included in the official water bill is the rates, you only pay for consumption, not the rates, and yes, its very unusual to see an actual water bill, all the agents are honest, they stand too much to lose by not being honest if they get caught pocketing money, if you suspect your water bill is not right, you have the right to see the actual bill.

We've been paying approx $50 per 2 months and that is using retic in the summer months too! Never seen a bill. It goes to our landlady (we rent privately) and she pays along with the rates and we pay her back.

I've banned the aircon since our leccy bill went up from an average of $200 for 2 mths to $225 after leaving it on just for a couple of days!

I am not hot in the house but hubby feels the heat so he walks around the house switching all the air cons on and I walk behind him 10 mins later switching them off! my argument is that I didn't move to Oz to feel cold.

Keefo not been there yet but been to Yanchep and Whiteman park a few times and there are roos everywhere. Which area did you find your rental in the end?

I loved whiteman pk last week, although we still the animal pk to visit. We found somewhere in tapping, so only 10 mins up the road.....like your energy saving idea.

Even with retic, it's nothing.

I had accidentally set my retic for 4 hours a go, instead of 4 minutes. Once I fixed it, it saved about $5 a month ..

With rentals, it's rare you'd pay for water use at all (gas and electric bills only).

really? I have a small place in perth I rent out and the water consumption bills are in my name (because I pay the rates) and there is always a consumption charge to be recharged to the tenant! There isn't even a garden.

We always get a copy of the bill send via post. It shows the monthly water rates plus the use-age the use-age is what we pay. You should get a copy to show what you are paying.

Its probably an an old fix speed compressor which will cost a lot to run, what you need is a nice shiney inverter driven a/c system that is a lot cheaper to run. We have this at home in the UK and we don't notice the cost, it is reverse cycle so does heating as well before everyone pipes up about only have a week a year where we may need it in the UK

That was only for a few hours Bibbs! I'd call a 10% increase on a two monthly bill for a few hours worth of feeling cool bloody expensive. God knows what it would be if we left it on 24/7!It's a fairly old system, is only in one room and is not very efficient. I'd rather stick a fan on or sit outside!

I hear you Nikki, we moved house in Jan 14, right in the middle of the first summer heatwave, it was 38-40 degrees, the new house had reverse cycle, the old house had a brilliant evaporative, when we started moving we turned the revers cycle on and left it running for a couple of days while we moved in, we used to leave the evap running most of the time and we didnt notice the elec bill rise in the summer, for the first couple of weeks we used the reverse cycle a lot as it was hot and sticky, then we got a first bill, it was the equivalent of a year in the evap house, we turned off the aircon and never turned it back on, the reverse cycle unit was about 1.7 meters tall and about 1 meter square with a fan on the top, the lights flickered when it kicked in

It's a 10 yr old split system. Absolutely no idea what sized inverter. It's only in the living room so provides no benefit to the bedroom whatsoever. As a result we don't really use it. Except today - I relented today!

We're still renting at the moment so tbh I'm not really that fussed. The house we are building is going to have a fully ducted, zoned, reverse cycle Daikin system.
