Home phone and internet help please?

We have a home phone and internet bundle with Optus, which is terrible. The ADSL download and upload speeds are extremely slow, which prevents me from working from home as I need the facility to upload/download large files.

To make things worse, the actual phone line has a constant crackle and we can't hear people speaking clearly.

Optus, to be fair, have been great support wise and have tried to rectify the problems with speed and phone line quality.

However, I need to have higher transfer speeds and a fully working phone line for my business.

Yesterday, I tried to get one of the bundled packages from Telstra that would give me cable (cable is supported where I live). However, whilst going through the connection process with a Telstra employee, watching her inputing all of the required data on their detailed system, I was told I can't have any of their packages because their system states that we dont have a good credit score or rating.

I am at a loss. Optus had no issues with me having their bundle packages. We've been here since January and we have a years' lease on our house.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Stay away from Telstra.... or Helstra as it is not very affectionately known! Many issues too numerous to mention with them. Having said that I am not a techno type of person so probably not able to give you specific advice, but I have my homephone and internet with iinet and I am extremely pleased with their service and the download speed. Just my view but I expect someone with huge knowledge of this will come along soon to help you.

I had this with Telstra too, who were the only company I could go with where we live, as iiNet etc don't service our area. Anyway, we failed our credit, I kicked up a stink saying can we fail a credit score when we have no history in Australia! Basically, they are looking at a computer and saying 'computer says no' just try speak to them again and explain you've already been paying ur internet bills fine and you can't build a creit rating in a new country without being given a chance, good luck.

by the way, we are really pleased with Telstra, very good internet speed and very cheap international calls.

Check to see if you are on a fibre estate, if so you can sign up and connect to a server already connected to the NBN, try looking at the e-wire, fuze, AusBBS etc web sites to see if youe estate is covered

We move in to our rental tom (Friday) in Heathridge when I enquired to IInet I was told the house was to far away from the exchange so no good for ADSL so offered me a dongle package but with only 10GB per month (no where near enough) They told me the only other company that could help was Telstra as we can get fibre optic with them and can get fibre optic at the address with the IInet package the cost was $80 a month which included phone calls and the internet

The packageI went for with Telstra is $100 and is called their Global package allows me to call the UK as often as I want and I get 200GB of Data and the faster speed of fibre the down side is that you get charged for calls made in OZ but with the package I,m on with my mobile this should easily cover the calls I need to make to an Ozzy No

As I included a Foxtel package to I did all the signing up in JB HiFi they were great (just tweaked a few numbers) The contracts are all 24 months but are transferable so if like us we hope to buy after our 12 month lease is up we can take it to our next home
