Steph88
Hi im a 26 year old female and will be moving to Perth the start of October working in a hospital close go city centre. However, iv heard a few negatives about Perth saying its quiet/boring etc. Im young and outgoing, no family and am really not the sort to be in bed come 9pm (which i have heard) What is the best area to live in- apartment shares ideally? Truthfully is there alot to do for young (ish) like minded people? Also i dont drive, how is the transport system?

Let some of the locals suggest areas for you (we are due to move later in the year) However, from what I know from several visits, Subi? everyone? (Subiaco for non locals!) shelteruk
Hiya hun I used to be local to perth im back in the UK now but i can say straight away that what you have heared is Wrong in part. Im 28 and spent my best years in Perth. im noyt a clubber but when my brothers did drag me along i had a amazing time, once your in the city around all the clubs and pubs its a great night out. But dont get me wrong perth does have the laid back attitude down aswell (what dont get done today gets done tomorrow) that sort of thing I have two brothers out the 26 and 25, if you wish im sure they can help you out with the local places. also as long as you like to get out and about you meet loads of people, at first maybe just the brits because we all do seem to gather together but eventually you will have Ozzie friends and get into the Ozzie culture. anything you want to know hun feel free to mesage me. good luck with all James
shelteruk
me again, where to live for what your looking for i can suggest Clarkson and Joondalup. Joondalup is called the city out of the city because of the decent shops and pubs also offers student type accommodation because of the local colleges. studio places for around 350 a week that includes bills in most places then you have Clarkson set 5 mins from Joondalup by car or train, it has a decent shopping complex recently rebuilt. also has decent apartments not more than 6 years old right next to the train station perfect for coming home late and stumbling down the road and straight into your front door lol. if you want to have alook online for other areas ill do what i can to answer any questions about the places. james
waynel
I don't think I would be recommending a 26 yr old singleton to live in Joondalup or Clarkson. Areas better to consider would be Subiaco, Leederville, North Perth, Highgate or East Perth, areas close to the cbd with high concentrations of similar young people, I would have thought areas as far north as Joondalup and Clarkson are either families or students. I know lots of young professionals also live in South Perth which is a short hop on the bus/walk across to the cbd. If it's beachside you are looking for somewhere like Cottesloe would probably be a good bet with direct access by train to the cbd for connections. Fremantle is also an awesome place, again direct connections to the cbd by train and very vibrant, lots going on.
shelteruk
What waynel says is perfectly true, the areas mentioned are all lovely places and good to live. All depends on what your looking for when you get there. Let us know what you want from your life out there and between all of us on here I'm sure we can come up with something. ali
Well, my 20 year old daughter usually arrives home after 5am when she goes out clubbing
Give me a break!
I'd say don't make any long term decisions on where you are going to live until you are here. Everybody has an opinion but usually the areas suggested they've not lived in. Get a holiday apartment near work for a few weeks initially then ask your work colleagues, someone may even have a share available. I wouldn't be looking at outer suburbs either. Scot01
Leederville, Mount Lawley near Beaufort Street which is jumping, Mount Hawthorn, Subiaco, Claremont, Fremantle, East Perth, all perfect. Clarkson - avoid! Perth is anything but boring - but you might not be able to afford to have a good time. ou also need to hook up with someone in the know as there are places to go on certain days - like he Leederville hotel on e.g a Wednesday night, a certain night club on another, the bars in the city on another - catch the wrong night it might seem quiet. caboodles
Hi steph88 I'm in Clarkson it's a nice place ... But not much as in bars and restaurants . Small shopping centre The trains are ace !!! Very regular . Easy to use . You pay by ( zones ) areas .. And can use the train and bus on the same ticket if it's in the same zone . Free cat buses in the city Leederville is nice ... Wine bars .. I think got a holiday feel about it .. Very close to Perth city .. One stop on the train . But coming from Manchester to me it's seems very quite . By 9 pm :-/ But this is a new experience with different plus . I do drive but have no car . I do miss not having things on the door step .. Like had a bad day ... Meet up with my friend after work 6 ... He THEN realised no keys to lock up at work ... They where back at the house ... So off I go back on the train on my own as he couldn't leave a unlocked building (1 hours journey .. Was south of the river ) .... Then back again .... And it was raining Was back in Clarkson at 9:45 /10 : 00 pm on a Friday night .. Every India was closed !!!!! 2 in Clarkson right near the station .... Only option was to Jumped in the car ... Up the road to pizza place ... Noooooo shut !! Third time lucky We found one pizza place open . But now I know ....
