Where to live???

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Reading throughout the forum this is a topic that comes up quite a lot and I'm sorry if this is somewhere in the depths of threads but all I have read tend to be more for families and not couples.

Me and my partner are moving over to Perth in May (very excited!!) and we have no kids. Because of our jobs we will need to be in close proximity to Perth airport or Jandakot airport with Jandakot being more likely. Can anyone shed some light on the areas around there, what they are like and what there is to do.

Cheers

Hi,

When I first came for my job interview, I stayed at a short term rental in East Vic Park. When I got the job, we were still waiting for our container, so stayed in vic park for some more time. It is such a lovely suburb for couples, very close to the city, one of the biggest cafes strips in Perth.

Because my job was at Perth Airport (both domestic and international), we drew a circle of 6 8 kms around the airport. Also I wanted to be close to the river and we wanted a petfriendly house with a dishwasher space (This was like the most difficult thing, so weird!). All these combined made our house search very difficult. The areas we looked for a house were Bayswater (lovely area, but we couldnt find any pet friendly rentals), Ascot (expensive, we couldnt find anything), Guildford (just next to the airport, it is very noisy, but beautiful area, next to the river, one of the oldest settlements in Perth so very very old houses, some are even heritage listed, we couldnt find anything which wasnt falling apart), Rivervale (nice area, close to Belmont, but not that dodgy) Bassendean, Ashfield. This is where we found our house, I'm happy to live here. 5 kms to domestic, 10 kms to international. When I have an early morning flight, I get to work in less than 10 minutes. We're next to the river, it's a quiet area and not so far from city. There is a train line coming from city all the way to Midland, if you're thinking of using public transport. 30 40 minutes drive to Hillarys and other beaches. Midland is also a very beautiful suburb, I drive there sometimes for fresh fish market. More developed and central than Bassendean.

I dont know much about Jandakot airport, I guess Como would be nice as you have no kids, it's close to the city too. Or you can even go for Fremantle. I think you can Google map this area, and look for rentals and suburb reviews. This is how we chose a place. What you like to do in your spare time also can help you decide to choose a suburb. I think homely.com was the website to check suburbs.

Goodluck!

If you are a couple with no kids, you'll want to be either in Perth, near Freo, or Applecross/Como/South Perth/Vic Park, or Leady/Mt Lawley way.

Those areas are the nightspots.

I'm in the Mt Lawley area, and it's hard to get to the Freeway during commuting times, so I'd cross that off. Stay south of the river.
