Say goodbye/ leaving party

Just wondering what other people are doing/did re saying goodbye to friends and family. We are leaving in the summer, so am thinking of having a get-together in the local park on a Sunday afternoon, and suggesting people bring a picnic and a rug. That way the kids can play and the adults can chat and there might be a game of cricket etc.

I don't really want to have to organise a big party in a village hall and faff about with catering etc, and I am not sure I want lots of little goodbyes. Any thoughts?

Sounds like a good plan Sarah, hopefully the weather will hold out.

My only advice is, try and be happy during your leaving party, let people remember the last days spent with you and your family as being happy days and memories of nice happy people.

I know its a sad occasion to leave family but try to keep a stiff upper lip.

We didn't have aleaving party as such but told just about everyone we know that we were going to be in the local pub from x time on x date and that they were welcome to pop in for as long as they liked. It worked really well as it allowed those with kids to come early etc and it felt really relaxed. It was the best send off!
