bristolinas
Hey all My name is Mel and I am paramedic currently based in Cornwall , my bf is Mark who owns his own glazing company and between us we have 3 kids and 2 dogs (which we intend to bring with us!) We are starting the visa application this week with Visa Bureau, coming on Mark's qualification as he is on the SOL (489) which would take the pressure off me, I didn't want to emigrate and then work full time with settling the kids in and sorting out all the other stuff we will have to do ! I am hoping for advice or head ups from those further on in the process and to reach out to those just starting it as well! If there's anything you wish you knew then please share ! We have looked at Bunbury for a starting point and Mark has made contact with the local glass companies. Thanks for reading and hope to speak to as many of you that has the time! sami c
Hi Mel, We're at similar point as you just starting out. Spoke to visa bureau too, they came recommended by someone and good reputation. I'm going to try and do application myself but just interested to know why ur going for 489? I'm going for 189 but would like to hear views on other options. Also I think if you get in on your qualification, your partner is still able to start work immediately and it doesn't mean you have to work immediately I think. Know a girl just got in Sept on her qual (dental hyg) but she has to sit exam first but her husband can work straight away. They got in on 189 too. Wonder if it may be same for you. bristolinas
Hey Sami ! We were advised by Darren at Vusa Bureau that the Skilled - nominated (subclass 489) would be the best way to go , I will certainly look into the 189 . Where are you guys thinking of heading to ? mx
verystormy
The 489, is not a bad visa, but does come with conditions that limit both where to live and work. It is also much slower to process. However, the availability of other options such as a 189 will depend on particular circumstances. For example, a 189 requires the occupation to be on the SOL list. But, a state sponsored 489, can be either SOL or CSOL list. There are a range of other factors as well
bristolinas
Thank you for that we did want to go ASAP so maybe we look into the 189, my job and my partner are both on the SOL !
sami c
Yeah thats really interesting verystormy, was wondering why I decided on 189, it definately seemed the better option. Wonder what Darrens reasons were Mel for rec 489 as Im like you want to get out asap and definately dont want to be too restricted. Just looking at areas now. Have few friends in different parts but has only been past few wks finally decided Perth. Had been Brisbane but now feel Perth ticks all boxes and more. Suppose time will tell. Theres so many areas, interesting uve picked Bunberry, I'll have to have a look. its going to be so exciting!!!.... xx

Mel and family Hi Mel, Congratulations on starting the process! I started almost two years ago now and after stopping and starting a few times we have now submitted our application (also using agent) and awaiting a case officer very impatiently! We are also in Cornwall, im a nurse and my husband builds pontoons. We are going on a 189 with my job but it will be my husband working initially as although I can use my job to get PR, nurses have to have a degree to register with nursing authority out there and I only have diploma!! It's so exciting when you know you can and decide to go for it! There is a wealth of knowledge and support on here so wishing you all the best x
verystormy
Thank you for that we did want to go ASAP so maybe we look into the 189, my job and my partner are both on the SOL ! Paramedic is not on the SOL. It is only on the CSOL, so not eligible for a 189. I cant comment on your husband without knowing exactly which occupation he intends to apply under. But, most glazing roles are also only on the CSOL. There may be a number of good reasons why an agent recommends a 489 and i would ask them why. Common ones include age
